    Howdy All,

Getting some new tyres put on the Muscle soon so thought would take the opportunity to powdercoat the wheels at same time.

Ok the deal is they have to be sandblasted first then powder coated.

Thinking of doing the swingarm also.

Anyone out there done it ?

Did you take bearings out of wheels ?

What do I need to be careful with etc ?

Same as everyone else on here I'm sick of the water spots/polishing etc...

    Cheers,

definately take bearings out mate and i would tape up inside the hub with blast tape before blasting and mask up before powdercoating or you wont get bearings back in, the powdercoater should do it anyway

Leave the bearings in while being blasted then remove afterwards,That way the bearing surfaces are protected.

Don't rely on the blaster to tape up cos the bloke in the office that takes your job usually isn't the blaster.

Wear gloves to prevent natural oil from your skin contaminating the blasted parts.

Point out the areas that need to be masked to the powder coater & check that it is understood.

As with the blaster, the person taking the job may not be the one doing the spraying.

Blast tape is a little like duct tape with a meterial in it.Its very strong and doesnt tear apart when blasted..The blaster will have some so get a bit of hime and tape it first.Dont trust some monkey in the blast place to do it unless you feel the owner knows his shit

The bikes only got 6,000km so the bearings would still be in good nick though..........as with everything HD they would cost a bit to replace I dare say..............

When a bearing is removed it is always recommended to replace with new.

At the end of the day however it is your coin.
