Crasher,
Good to see you are OK. Where were you riding?
A few years back a mate was riding his Honda 4 down the freeway here in Perth with his wife on the back. He was in the inside lane at the speed limit of 100km/hr. He was hit from behind by a car which knocked the bike down. His wife was dragged for 70m under the car and received 80% burns to her body from the car exhaust. She had to wear a burn-suit for 3 years in Perths heat. The arsehole in the car was un-licensed (banned), drunk (in broad daylight) and due in court 2 days later for the same offence. My mates wife has dreadful scars for life now but at least survived to have kids.
The cops ban these guys for life but they DON'T stop driving!
4 years back, while I was waiting for my WideGlide to arrive, a couple on a Harley were hit on Ennis Avenue just south of Safety Bay. It was 10pm on a Friday night. There is a wide central reservation about 6m wide with bushes. All the rider got to see was a Falcon backing into his path, in the dark, rear end first from his right. Both were killed instantly as the bike was impaled into the right hand side of the car. I still have the news picture to remind me just how bad it can get.
The offender (about 25) managed to lose control of his late model car on a dead-straight stretch of dual-carriageway. Needless to say, he was over the dd limit and unlicensed (banned). He was jailed for about 7 years so I guess that's 2 or 3 with good behaviour. Two families won't ever be the same again.
They say it costs the state around $3 million for every road death and yet NOTHING is done to check on banned drivers unless they are caught at a booze bus and are over the limit or when finally kill someone.
Surely it can't be that hard to check on car registrations of family members etc or to hire private investigators to do random checks of banned drivers. One death saved would pay for 50 private investigators for one year!!
I am ANGRY!
I am also very happy that Crasher survived the actions of yet another bloody lunatic. I hope you reported him.... for what it's worth.
safe driving all
Sorry to read of yet another close shave on the forum. Glad you're ok crasher, have experienced the same myself on Kwinana freeway at around 1am when a knob in a Rex came screaming up right behind me (I was doing 110 in a 100 zone I confess). I had been watching him in the mirrors coming from miles away and he was on me in less than a few minutes and ripped around me at close range. One slight movement of my bike or his Subaru and we'd probably have both been history. Just plain bloody stupid.
I will say though that I've also had two Rice Burners do the same on the freeway and a few Harleys as well
We keep hearing about motorcycles being too dangerous.........I wonder why when there are so many knobs on the road!
We have to have headlights on all the time "for our safety" and they still can't see us, it has made no difference at all.
Some of us have loud pipes and they still can't hear us, it has made no difference at all.
We can ride in groups and they don't see us, hear us or they just cut us up..........but WE are the dangerous ones?? Gimme a break.
Want a car license? Get on a bike for 12months first and learn about safety and how to respect other road users
Why aren't I surprised it was on the Tonkin? Man, I hate the Tonkin! The only good thing about it is that it takes me to the International Terminal!
I used to work near the domestic terminal (Australia Post Mail Centre) and there were way to many close calls to and from work on the bike. Mr Howard is making an election promise to add 'fly overs' on the Reid "blackspots" to save lives? Bugger me.........when was saving lives an election promise? Just do it ya mumbling little gnome!
Sorry but if it had been me,I would have followed the idiot at a safe distance, till he stopped and then showed him why you don't mess with guys on Harleys
nobody
I'm 46 now, but when I was younger I did everything from throwing ball bearings through the windscreen of one car ( not too bright ) to kicking a door in and breaking an aerial from a car that deliberately tried to run into the back of my bike while my wife was on it, just because I pulled to the front of the line at a set of lights?? Both of these drivers were driving like morons and deserved what they got , and were too scared to retaliate. Even though I dont regret what I did to them, I think the best thing to do is just learn from everything that happens to you on the road and try to cover your ass next time. You could follow them, and then belt them like earlier suggested, and you could end up on charges for it ? The reality is that not every Harley rider is as tough as they would like everyone to think ! Even though it is very difficult sometimes, I try to stay calm and learn from every experience. A shotgun would help at times but I think that is against the law ???? I'm not really sure why though, if they can aim there vehicles at us then why can't we aim guns at them?? Where's the justice ??
Maybe we should get some T-shirts printed along these lines.......
