Just got my 07 XLC back today after getting the SE 883-1200 conversion done along with SE .551 cams, 10.5:1 pistons and SE Racetuner. As soon as i left the dealer i could tell there was a huge difference. Now to run it in all over again... Thanks for the advice KC, i should have done it ages ago.
OUTBAK
Another happy horsepower junky. Congratulations & enjoy.
I had to order the 10.5:1 pistons separately and as a result i still have the stock 1200 ones that came with the conversion kit.....so if anyone out there wants a cheap pair of standard 1200 pistons please let me know.
Hi outbak glad to hear your conversion worked out ok just wanted to ask did you have a fuel computer on your bike before this cheers
no.. i got the racetuner fitted as part of my conversion..
Grafpak,
Due to work and personal commitments i have only done about 250km on it so far. One thing i immediately noticed is it pops and crackles quite a bit for about 5km or so until it has warmed up, then seems to be fine.
It cost me about 2000 in parts and about 1000 in labour. I got the parts directly from Chicago Harley in the US and had the work done at the local dealership here which costs an arm and a leg. But i was lucky i decided on that as my ECU died after the racetuner was fitted. Apparently the SE racetuner can only ever be tuned to a one ECU, so if your ECU dies, you also will need to replace the racetuner. I got another ECU and racetuner under warranty... Not sure if the ECU just died on its own or if they screwed up. But it didnt cost me any extra so its all the same to me anyway.. I decided to get the SE cams and pistons all at once, that way i dont need to get the top end pulled down again later and figured that would save me money later on.
Havent had it on a dyno, I dont even know if we have a dyno out here.. we have a few performance shops in town so i guess we do If not, the closest one is probably in Darwin or Adelaide
Bike goes real nice with less vibration at higher speeds now. As an 883 it was a bit hairy at speeds over 130 kph. Got it up to 160 the other day with my missus on the back and it still had more. I am more than happy with it now. It even sounds better..... like its balls have dropped.
Good on ya' outbak, I'm sure you're loving every second of the ride. More power to you.
I hope one day when I gather enough cash I can do the same. Buy more horses!! Giddi up.!!!
ENJOY!!!
Grafpak, I use normal premium which i think is 95, i have heard good and bad things about the 98 fuel. We only have one place in town that i know of with the 98 and they charge about $2 a litre for it.. The acceleration difference was pretty huge... i really have to hang on in 2nd and 3rd when accelerating hard. Where the 883 used to lose acceleration at around 120kph.. i find the bike now does the same at about 140-150. I havent noticed any pinging. When getting all my gear together for the conversion, i was considering changing my front pulley to the 30 tooth that the 1200's use. But i dont think i need it, the bike cruises at 130-140 which is the speed limit on the open road here.. so i am happy with that. I am only kicking myself for being too tight and not getting a 1200 right from the start.
