I cant handle Full Face Helmets. Have always used Open Faced and glasses.
A lot of my riding can be in Heavy Traffic and I feel safety compromised with a full faced on.

ignoring some of the dickwit comments made by some I tend to agree (if you prefer to ware a phone booth on your head by all mean - go ahead)

    - I just expressed what works for me and I never tried to enforce this on anyone else (even though some d*wits seem to think so starting to make personal attacks - fuck that no)

What was the purpose of raising this topic if you cant express your thoughts ?

This works as well I guess (just don;t expect too much respect coming your way :) )

Ive had a great read of this thraed so i'll share what i wear on my melon

I come from a off road background and i bought one of the Shoei VX series helmets Tthey are about $800-00 but boy what a fit - like a glove and has removeable cheek pads and vents all over teh helmet so are cool on the melon as well (USed it crossing the Simpson x 2 )

so since i added the HD to teh line up i thought "why change" the helmet

The visor is so important when riding into the sun and have no idea how you guys wear an open face helmet with no protection to the face area

Those "masks" look ridiculous and really offer zilch protection

The peak on the Shoei doesnt "catch" in the wind at all (Well designed peaks have great airflow and flex just that little bit)

i use a pair of those Red Baron styled googles made by Halcyon in Britain (Liek the googles used by Anthony Hopkins in "The worlds fastest indian"

So i look a bit odd but Im comfortable as and the googles offer great protection

Most eveyone has a open face on a HD but i suppose theres a reason why open face arent used on perfrmance street bikes (despite the fact  they have a fairing to reduce the wind hitting the helmet)

well thats my story ............looking a bit different

    Some great opinions expressed here.

Nothing better than a few people razzed up to keep us entertained. Keep up the good work!

I've been using the same old open face for over 16 years with the added protection of a neoprene mask(but only when absolutely necessary). The tags are missing off the helmet straps, no adjustment left due to the gizzards of the helmet all compressed. She's a bit noisey now with the wind getting in. But i'm just about over bugs, gravel from the log trucks (pulling onto the shoulder to help me out) and raindrops which feel like darts in your face at 100+. Was thinking about upgrading in the near future. Some good info here on helmet types. At least now I have a few clues before I start looking.

    Cheers, Roo.yes

A friends' father had a tangle with a roo last week.
He was on a HD, wearing the almost mandatory open face helmet.
Sadly, he hit the gravel face first ...

He is now drinking thru a straw, wishing he had been the wearer of a full face helmet.

Well if that doesn't convince one to wear a full face ( or in my case ) the ol enduro helmet nothing will

I'm sorry for him that he's now in the position he is - REALLY hope all goes well for him

    Best regards

I dont understand what the issue is with wearing a full face helmet on a Harley. Its obviously an image thing that one should wear an open face helmet to look cool. I have three, an open face, an open face with a flip down visor and a HD full face. I find the full face is good for long trips and my head doesnt seem to get smashed around as much at speed with it on.
I too have had an off where a full face saved my arse.
Each to their own I say but I still dont get the negative attitude towards full face helmets.
Nice exit on the corner there too !!

    Thanks..   binnsy
I have had many offs were full face helments have worked to protect me, racing  moto x, and enduros all my younger life
I also have the range of helments and in the rain I will always take the FF I think we all do
If shes parked in frount of the pub I have an old shit helmet for the prick that may steel it

I have both open and full face. I choose either depending on weather, trip distance or route taken, but mostly prefer the full face for everyday use. If I'm just going for a low speed cruise along the beach front etc, or to local shops on a nice sunny day, then I may wear open face & sunnies.

I just find it more convenient to use FF, especially being a wearer of contact lenses, because of the potential of any fine grit been blown into my eyes from passing vehicles. If you wear contacts, you'd know exactly how it feels if this happens, believe me it isn't fun at all.

hear you china, wasnt trying to convert any one, just sharing an experience.its up to the individual what he/she wears, rides, likes.i wear both, depending on wear im at on the day and find with glasses its easier with the full face at speed. life is about who we are ,not who people want us to be.cheers

Good one Independant. I like it.

Now I know why the little lady insists I wear my full face, instead of the eggcup.

Maybe this might help the discussion ? I have one of each helmet, full face for when I know I am going on a long run two up and half face for solo .. I prefer half face with mask or sock .. But can see the benefits of not eating grasshoppers and wasps with a passenger on board.. cheers Ted
