I ride with a full face helmet most of the time, I have a variety of open face helmets also but I don't wear those face masks as I think they look weird and they don't offer any protection from flying debri like the full face does.

I have had Shark helmets for years now they are a great helmet comfortable, visors are much cheaper than some of the other brands and that is something you should consider when buying a full face helmet. Full face helmets are great for rainy days also they aren't noisy like an open face helmet and you also don't have to contend with crap flying in your face or your eyes when bugs hit you or rocks fly up from cars or bikes in front of you.

You will just have to decide which offers the comfort you require.

Just bought an Rjays Striker 2 with a tinted visor, all up $180 odd. Haven't picked it up yet. That was about the best looking (imo) all matt black helmet I could find.

Should check it out Angel, at those prices you could buy a full face and an open face with a face mask.

I have a RJays Tour Teck helmet, one that is a full face but you can flip the front up if you want to at slow speeds.  Put up with some teasing from the boys, but after coming off on a corner about a month ago, the damage is right across the front of the helmet.  (I face planted, I'll admit it.  Although the boys say I stepped off, I prefer to say i was thrown.....) Will never not wear a full face from now on, I rekon it saved me a fortune in teeth repair etc, as well as kept the skin on my chin.  I didnt have a headache either, no sore neck, although it does tend to rub against the collar of my jacket when I have it done up tight in the cold weather.   As soon as the insurance money comes through, shall be getting another one pretty quick.  I think if I had a mask and open face on, and I often wear one under the helmet anyway, that I would have had a broken jaw in the least.

The lazer Dragon is a great compromise with more protection than a standard open face but similar looks. The dragon has a slide down visor which is close fitting so theres very little wind noise or drag. Its also one of the lightest helmets in its class. Thats makes an enormous amount of difference over the period of a long days riding to muscle fatigue in the head and neck area. Normally they are $239 but we have them on sale at $199.00 including both clear and smoked visors. Thats a $100 saving. Postage is $17.95 anywhere mainland Australia (inc Tasmania)

I reckon the full face was a great investment, the other eason being it stops the bloody grasshoppers that tend to get HUGE up here from going up my nose!!!!

I 've had a different helmets in the past but just brought a shoei and its half the weight and really comfortable and good air vents cost me about $560 abit more than I wanted to spend but their are meant to be the best.

Just today I had a Shark Series 3 Hakka flip up arrive. compared to my my Shoei XR1100 it's heavy, and also pretty bulky. The flip up though is brilliant, moving all the way over the helmet to the back so it doesn't look so weird, plus it is the only helmet with a full safety rating approved for use in both full face and open positions. It's definitely quieter than the Shoei. I will see how it goes but on first try the Shoei is the better helmet, but the flip up is convenient.

I wear a full face. winter i have visor on summer i run with light face mask helps with wind burn and sunburn, I need the extra air moving round my head,
Half helemts in my view may as well not even be on your head in my view only they are worthless (speaking from a veiw of someone thats bounced down the rod a few times)

Glad to see others are riding Harleys with a full face, beginning to think i was the only one.

I can understand the need for a half face helmet but why then wear a mask ? seems to defeat the purpose

Nolan flip screen, works great for me, even the clear screen is 100%UV, and when it's really cold a neck sock works great. Thinking about one of the new Nolan N43's.
Also got an RXT open face that I like for just around town, nice weather etc. Seem to be using it less and less though....

Got a really good Arai full face, great helmet, but find I just don't like the closed in feeling, much prefer the heaps cheaper Nolan...

I've been riding an awful long time and been down the road a few times too.

Please (as you seem to know) go the whole Hog and buy a full face, bug scrapers are the " Look Mum - no face!" option.

It doesn't matter what brand, just do the full face, at least you can then put gaffer tape on the top of the visor and the tip for the sun screen effect if needed and use different visors for varying conditions,

I'd rather be un-coool than have a face reconstruction.

    Don't compromise (please?)

Only thing that is going to save your head and face is a full face helmet. I know most don't think they look cool enough but I know what I would rather wear.

You have to decide how much your own head is worth, without it your dead.

It's hard to advise Angel, I have a Shoei full face that I wore travelling across the US with no trouble, in fact my breath (phew) kept me warm at Flagstaff in the snow, but returned to my Nolan open face w/screen & sunshade, and then tried to put on the fullface on a long tripto Qld., but it kept fogging up, so back home to get the Nolan...yet I insist that my lady and my daughter wear a fullface as what could happen to their pretty faces is not worth contemplating...the other alternative is Zorro's as I am considering his as with summer approaching, but he beat me to the punch... hot heavy helmets are a no no
