OK RT, curiosity is killing me.... I just have to ask, how many bikes do you own, and how many have you owned, and where do you get the time to clock up the K's you do?

    Roadtrain we are very similar......

I too had all the Trumpys and stuff.....the old days Harleys weren't the go, pommy bikes were.

Should scan some pics and post my Pommy stuff....just aint got the time, but when I do I will post them, wish there was digital cameras back then...

Boxes and boxes of old pics, some a grouse, some I don't wanna remember

Daz....once again I had one of them, those tanks are worth a bit now.....and I do not care what anybody says, the superglides and lowriders handle way better than any FXWG.

I owned (at the same time) a 85 FXEF (superglide) and a 85 FXWG, my wife and I did a lot of ridind int he 80's and the for handling, the Superglide won hands down.

Best man at my wedding and godfather to my daughter.. Dave from Doc Hogs in Vic has an original mint 1971 Roadtrain....thats right folks a Roadtrain.

For you people that has never seen one, check the pic out....they did not come with electric start!

The motorcycle world has always been divided into two major camps: factory production machines and custom bikes.
From time to time, though, a company will try out new ideas with a “factory custom.” The result isn’t always a success on the showroom floor, but these motorcycles are often influential for decades after their creation.
The American motorcycle scene of the late ’60s and early ’70s provided the perfect breeding ground for such experimentation. Bike sales were rising toward record numbers, and Japanese companies were redefining street bikes with such landmark machines as Honda’s CB750. Meanwhile, American customs were gaining recognition as a unique style through exposure in movies like “Easy Rider.”
In the midst of those dramatic developments, Willie G. Davidson sat down to sketch a new bike for the company bearing his name. Taking note of the custom scene, Willie G combined the 1,200cc motor and frame from the company’s Electra Glide with the chopper-style front end from the Sportster. He added a Euro-inspired fiberglass seat/tail section for a unique look, with wide, bold graphics.

The resulting machine, released in 1971 as the Super Glide, was not an instant success. In particular, the “boat-tail” rear was a bit much for most American buyers.
But the notion of a lean, muscular cruiser caught on in a big way. Once the tail section disappeared for ’72, the Super Glide developed a following, spawning the FX line of Harleys that has continued for more than 30 years, through the Low Rider, the Wide Glide, the Sturgis, the Softail and the Deuce.
That’s a lot of very famous Harleys, all of which got their start with this machine.

As for how many were made, I don't have that info, but not many I can assure you...

Gotta get my old pics scanned properly one day, not enuf hrs in a day....

    Hi Roadtrain,

I know this is a HD forum, but I am restoring that same bike 1969 TR6 Triumph, can you give me some info on the paint colours you used.

I have put it on hold for now, as I seized the motor and I am in the process of rebuilding it.

    Thanks for your time.

    Troy.

    Roadtrain that Triumph is beautifull!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember a guy in Sydney back in the early 80's who was known as "Toad" had a roadtrain which I recall as being all stock. He used to hang out at "American Chopper Parts" at Homebush a fair bit as I think he was buddies with John who ran the shop at the time.

A beautiful bike but I couldn't really get used to the seat/rear fiberglass section which is of course the most significant feature of these bikes but I love the tank paint scheme and #1divider of that model.
