Made the most of a still, cloudless winters day to break out the shovel and go for a tonk up the hill to the Collie motorplex (http://www.motoringsouthwest.org.au/). It was an "open day" for streetbikes as well as motard and vintage events. To be honest, since getting the FL back on the road a few months back i have really only ridden short distances so this was an ideal opportunity to get her out on the highway and stretch the legs. The boys were all far too busy to go riding so about 10.15 I set off. The Collie hill is unique in that it is the only place in Australia that you go uphill to get into a hole ( ;D boom-boom !). In reality, it is a scenic 50 or so kilometers of winding, uphill highway built for bikes. Dropped in on a mate for a coffee and to get directions to the racetrack. 15 minutes later I was trackside, admiring the bikes both on the track and in the pits. As usual, broke out the box brownie and took a few flicks :
This thing made the hair stand up on the back of your neck as it howled around the track : Also saw this in the carpark - very tidy : After having a poke around, I decided to head off. Headed out towards Mumballup however a left instead of a right at a "T" junction saw me heading East instead of South. Twigged to it fairly quickly but decided to keep going as there was no rush, the shovel was running strong and the weather was sublime. Ended up out the back of Boyup Brook, into sheep country. Eventually got back on track and headed homewards, although with a 50 mile "detour", fuel was becoming a niggling worry. Headed back through the Ferguson valley. home of local Vineyards and Breweries, All up, just on 200kms for the ride and as far as I know, nothing jettisoned itself along the way. Gotta love a sunny winters day. Cheers
