I've posted this here a while back, somewhere ?? A mate and i got pulled over by a cop in Nerang (Gold Coast) and he was in a plain car wearing overalls (police overalls i later realized) but had a hard hat and a fluffy toy sitting inside the back window. We were following a car who was behind him, and who was doing 60km in an 80 zone. The stretch of road was a few km's in a straight line but double lines, we overtook the car in front of us and the cop in disguise who, eventually overtook the guy doing 60km and then followed us for about 5km's. We didn't realize he was a cop until he pulled us over. I asked him why he followed us for 5km's before pulling us over and why he didn't pull up the old guy doing 60 in an 80 zone and he said, usually when i follow bikes on that road i get them for speeding as well as the initial double line incident (we didn't speed). I asked him about his hard hat and fluffy toy being entrapment and again asked why he didn't pull up the guy doing 60 in an 80 zone and he began to mention our cylidrical rego holders and my mates tail tidy, so i shut up. I hate em. But remember, it's not for revenue, it's just for our safety. BULLSHIT.

this is what comes to mind
    To hide in plain sight
If you have to hide to catch people doing the wrong thing, the system is wrong.

I don't think doing 60 in an 80 zone is illegal, only frustrating.

I know I will probably cop some flak for this, but if you speed and get caught - suck eggs - no matter how you got caught.

I have lost 4 mates to speeding. 2 their own fault, and 2 others completely innocent!! So I have little sympathy for dickheads that do more than the speed limit and then cry poor when they get caught.

HOWEVER - That said... I don't believe speed cameras do anything to make the road safer. You want to do that - put more cops on the road in brightly marked cars, and see how many people slow down.

Yep 3ks is fucked. Fuck - my truck's speedo is 10Ks out from the factory!! Thankfully it is out in my favour, but still... there has to be some room for error. 20ks over - well that is a different story.

Dude - I am not about to give anyone a lecture on how to ride / drive. But I am one mate down because some idiot speeding in a car coming the other way had too much speed to take the corner and hit him on his bike - DEAD INSTANTLY!!!

So please don't lecture me about how it can't be speeding alone - as it was!! And you want to know the clincher mate. The cops estimate she was only doing about 20 - 30kms over the limit!! (120 odd in a 100 zone) She didn't have the ability to drive that fast. You might - but that does not make it right.

Speed limits are there to protect idiots from themselves. Some people think they are there just to piss you off!! Nah... What pisses me off is this woman got bugger all slap on the wrist and my mate is dead at 24, just because she obviously thought it was OK to speed. FUCK THAT!

I understand your anger mate, i had a sister who was killed by a drunk driver but it was not the alcohol that killed her, it was the idiot that made the decision to drive drunk. You describe the person that killed your mate as having too much speed to take the corner so, that in itself is a good example of what i mean. Speed itself did not kill your mate, some idiot who had no idea of his own ability and decided to drive like that because he doesn't understand his limits killed your mate. If at some time he had been given proper driver training he would have known his own ability and probably would not have made the same stupid mistake that killed your friend. You can fine some people all the money you like but it won't change their habits because they will always think they are bullet proof until someone shows them they are not. All i am saying is that there are drivers/riders that have all different types of abilities out there, some have huge amounts of natural talent (of which i don't) and some don't. Some riders look at others and think to themselves, look at the way that idiot is riding but, the rider himself knows that he is well within his own ability. I'm not suggesting we turn the roads into a race track, i just think cops are trained into believing that fining everyone is the only answer and they aren't able or allowed to adopt common sense or good judgement in most situations. Who is it that say's 100km's an hour is ok for rider A and rider B. Is 100km's an hour some magical speed that all drivers are safe doing ?? I don't think so ?? I see 80 year old drivers that shouldn't be on the road, never mind doing 100km's an hour. Those same drivers are flat out driving safely at 40km's an hour. It's all about revenue mate , make no mistake about it. If the powers that be used all the revenue to train road users i would never ever bitch again. Even the RACQ wants to know where the money goes ???????? It certainly doesn't go into making our roads safer.

    Amen Davo!!

A guy killed himself about 20 minutes down the hwy from me. 80K zone... expected speed 140k. This is a straight stretch of road too, and yet he hit a roo and killed himself. Now the family leave flowers on the median strip.

My take is... if we as doing 80 - like the sign stated, I reckon there would be a good chance he misses the roo - AND - what if it was some kid chasing his soccer ball... I hate to think.

On the other hand, how many roo's have been simply passed because someone was speeding and the roo then jumped across the road behind them ?? And if a roo jumps out at precisely the wrong time doing 60, 80 or 100 k's then you are going down no matter what your ability is. Anyway, each to their own opinion and i don't think there are many occasions that 140 in an 80 zone is safe, another case of lack of judjement because of lack of rider ability i'd say. There are always going to be deaths on the roads as long as there are vehicles on the road but the key is to minumise the deaths, fining everyone has never worked and never will, it has been tried for a long time and failed for a long time so why not try a different approach ?? I just think many more lives could be saved if riders/drivers could handle their vehicles better and more money was spent on improving the condition of our roads rather than fining everyone for everything. And, i've said this before too, if the government really believed that slower speeds will save lives "and they really care" why don't they speed limit all vehicles to 100km's an hour and end all the bullshit. We are supposed to buy R1's then ride them at the speed limit ?? What a crock !!!! Why bother buying one ???? Mind you, if they do speed limit bikes i'll be selling mine because that would take away the whole reason i've loved them since i was 10 years old. They are exciting things that make you feel alive and if ever i feel like i am riding around being so worried and cautious that i am afraid to go over the speed limit, it will be time for me to give riding away for ever because there is no point any more. In certain areas in the mountains and elsewhere there is room to have fun at speed safely and i will enjoy that feeling until the day i give up riding or die doing it. But, if i die riding i bet it won't be because of speed alone. JMO.

I agree 100%. It has nothing to do with safety when they setup a fixed speed camera on a downhill stretch of road. But if you get pinged by a cop with a mobile unit - then that is a different story.

    Hi guys,

we've gotta stop calling them accidents. An accident inplies that no one is at fault. They are collisions as there is always someone at fault (either directly or indirectly).

However I do agree that the cameras are for revenue only other wise they would all be placed at known 'black spot' areas. We know from reports that only about 20% of the cameras are located at these places. The rest are at ....lets just say more financially viable positions....

When me kids were littler, I never ever sped while I had them with me, luv em too much. But on me bike I speed, but in certain areas. Open hwy's, and not in built up areas. I might be over a bit on occasion but mostly no. On the hwy recently on me bike, cruising on 110 (10k's over), and a car passed me (and 3 or 4 cars in front of me) doing at least 130. He had to pull in in front of the car up ahead so the oncoming car wouldn't hit him, and he just got in before the oncoming car went by. A big FARK went through my mind. But what got to me was that there were 3 kids in the car, that I could see!  This cock come so close to having a head-on in front of me and others. I was furious. Crazy cunt.

I think a lot of us have lost friends from  speeding, sad to say. But it's a fact of life. A lot of us have had near misses, from our own speeding, it's got me fucked why I'm still alive. Back in the day, on our bikes, leaving pubs shitfaced and dragging through backstreets doing some really crazy shit (and loving it!)  We could outrun the cops then, their cars were pissweak. If ya numbers up,your fucked. Sad to say. But don't kill some poor innocent bastard doing it.                          About 2yrs ago, me mates told me about a radar trap, up here at a one horse town on the hwy. The vehicle was a shitbox/basheed about old Hilux, spotlight on the roof and pigging cages on the back etc. The whole town here was taliking about that one.
