    RIDE BEYOND THE TRAUMA
    Hi Guys,

some of you may know that I am a Volunteer SES road resuce member which I have done the past 6 years- we (Vols) are always ready to help those who need us to cut them out of a car.

Well now we need your help.

On mothers day this year I was called to a car accident whereby the driver unfortunately didn't make it. She was a young girl, age 19 and only 500m from home when it happened. Even though I have completed over 400 resuces and seen many a sad sight, it was this event that made me want to do more than "just cut people out of cars" I want to do something that makes people think and maybe reduce the time my pager goes off.

I talked to a fellow SES member and initally was going to do an Ironbutt ride on my own and from that idea came "Ride Beyond the Trauma"

    What can you do?

On the 9th October this year a couple of us are riding from Pakenham to Toowomba and back via the coast to rasie the awareness of road trauma, we are support the families of the victims of road trauma and the money we raise will assist education and concelling services for those who are left behind.

    Spread the word
We are asking as many riders as we can to ride from Pakemham to Healesville as a show of concern for road trauma. We are planning to leave Pakemham at 10am with a mini festival commecning at 8am (think GP ride) and we ask for each rider to donate $2 (tax deduction) At Healesville will be a BBQ for everyone to enjoy

We (RBRT) will then ride off to Toowomba with the support of the SES, stopping at schools during the day to talk to students and at night the general public.

For this to happen and to gain support from Council and VicPOL we need to get an understanding of the number of riders that would support us so I'm asking for "expressions of interest" and for those who on other forums to spread the word.

'Ride beyond the Trauma' will be made into a documentary so it would be great to have something like 500 riders ride with us to make a statement.

If you can, please lodge your support here by simply saying "I'm in"

Over the next couple of weeks we will complete the webiste and Fairfax papers have already commited to making this an ongoing article covering the planning etc and Thursday next week we meet with members of Parliment (transport, Roads, ESV etc) who wish to support us as much they can.

    Thanking you in advance

    Poddy

Good one poddy, post a link to the site when it goes up, and be sure to have a donations tab on it so those of us that can't do the run with ya can at least contribute.

    All the best Mate.

Just a thought Poddy, seeing as Fairfax and Parliment are going to be on-board with you and the SES here, I wonder if it's not too far fetched to try and go National with this one.

If you could appoint a coordinator for each State, and liase through the website it might be possible?

Reckon there would be quite a few SES Volunteers Nationwide that ride and would jump at the chance.

Thanks guys for the support and ideas.
I've spoke to Steve who is doing the website and as suggested by Rider we are now planning to go NATIONAL with the ride by having riders in their own area organise a ride to leave at the same time as us.
We will want people to register a ride under the heading of "Brothers & Sisters- Ride beyond the Trauma" and try to raise awareness and money to support the silent victims, those are the family members left behind to live with the loss.

Imagine if in very state we could get 4-5 rides with maybe 20-30 riders in each group happening at the same time, with the same message and if that stops the Rescue Pager going off for just one week then that means we have stopped the trauma and that in my opinion would be a great result.

I have posted this on a number of forums I'm part of and the response has been excellent and given me strength to keep going. I was about to stop doing the Road Rescue because I was getting tired of cutting people out of cars and felt I wasn't making a difference. To see the support I have had is bloody brilliant.

Once the site is up I'll let ya's all know

    Cheers
