    Hi Guys,

I was looking at getting my Iron lowered but was told that there can be problems with the stand being too long which causes the bike to stand too upright and become unstable.

Is this true? Has anyone had this kind of issue??

    cheers

    Thad

Every Sportster that I owned has been Lowered . always had the stock stand, My 06 has 10" Shocks and has never look like it's wanted to fall over

I have 11 inch shocks on my Iron with the standard kick stand, never had any problems. It does lean as far over as it did with the standard 13.5 inch shocks, but it is still fine. TC

From what I understand there were two designs used for Sportsters, one of which was shorter than the others and used for the 883 Low and the first batches of Nightsters that shared the Low's shorter rear shocks. Then the Nightster's were raised by two inches (in around 2009) and now share the same higher rear shocks as the current Iron 883 does.

I have lowered my Iron as far as is probably possible while still retaining suspension, with 3-inch lowering blocks and shorter 12-inch shocks (stock are 13.5-inches). I have still retained the stock kick stand but I need to be wary of the slope of the surface I park it on as if there's a slight angle off centre the bike won't stand safely. Unless you plan on lowering it by 4.5-inches like I have it won't be much of a concern, but by all means enquire at your local HD dealer about the shorted kick stand from the 883 Low.

i lowered mine 3 inches and if i park it with the stand facing slightly uphill, it stands up straight enough for me to be nervous. i asked the boys at the stealers and they sourced a stand from a yank iron. aparently they are a couple of inches shorter (the stands as well as the shocks). they then told me it would cost around $142. i promptly told them to get fucked. ill live with it.
