     Hello,

Im 42, live in Mt Eliza and dont have a Harley yet. Hell I dont even have my motorcycle licence. But have always had an interest in bikes and Harleys.

My story is the usual thing, used to ride motorbikes when I was growing up but then met my now "ex" and motorbikes gave way for a family car. Anyway 12 years and 4 kids later......and 3 years ago I was on the tail end of the previous 3 years of both of us being unhappy and just going through the motions for the kids sake basically. She left me and I was very depressed very overwieght with high blood pressure diabetes and a heart attack waiting to happen.

I decided there was more to life than this so turned my life around.  Lost 32 kgs, diabetes dissapeared, blood pressure normal so no more meds and Im now as fit and healthy as I was at 32. Then a year ago met the most wonderful loving woman I have ever met. Shes my everything loves me uncondtionally and is absolutely gorgeous as a bonus.Men..(and woman) stare at her wherever we go, but Im getting used to the attention she gets, and Im not jealous I know shes mine.) Anyway Ive got a second chance at living my life and being happy with a woman I truelly love. And we have discussed many life goals we would like to do together, one of them being to buy a Harley and enjoy some weekends just crusing around.

So Im here to learn all I can about them what model we should buy etc etc. So hope you dont mind someone on here who doesnt have a licence or a bike, but certainly has the passion for something hes always wanted to do and now has finally found someone to do it with and make those dreams a reality.

Thanks for the advice Muffin, Thats exactly what I am going to do, get my licence now so Ive got a good 1 1/2 years to research and buy something that we both like and want. Our other goal to build a house, has to come first so all going well this will be done and we will be ready to move onto the Harley by then.

Thanks for the welcomes. Your a very friendly bunch here. I expected to be told to go away dreamer and come back when youve got your licence and your Harley.
So any suggestions for what we should buy when the time comes? I won't be riding it to work etc as I have a company car it will be used purely for weekend trips on nice days. A ride down to Portsea or a weekend trip to Phillip Island. That sort of thing.

The Yamaha Vstar 650 is a good LAMS bike as its a cruiser and sorta looks like a Harley and most people have them a year then move on so if you look after it you will almost get your money back and there are plenty to chose from...When you get your Harley buy what feels best for you and your missus and your intended use ..All the best

Welcome Truman! I never thought I would say this but it's a pity you're not in the ACT as you you can ride a standard Harley on your learners there (at least that's what the DMV told me when I moved there). Basically, you're restricted to 150Kw/tonne & under 660cc in most states. I might be biased but you could use a pre 1973 Bonneville(650cc) or a Daytona (500cc) and have a bike that will most likely appreciate when you come to sell it in the future (if you could bring yourself to do it). Good luck with your plans!
