About this time next month I am going to ride from central Vic up to Darwin - up the centre. If you guys have any advise to give it would be much appreciated. Am riding on my own and have 3 weeks till I have to be home. I' ve done 2 and 3 day rides before but usually in company and not so far off the beaten track. What don't I know?
cheers
I have done a trip to from Canberra to Perth and back a couple of summers ago. I was doing about a 1000km a day. Needless to say my wrist was sore holding the accellerator all day. Several months later I realised my bike came standard with throttle control. It is worth checking to see if yours has one. As the guys said before, water, food, tools, spare HT leads (the bike will run like shit if they decide to break down) tyre foam in a can, tyre repair kit. and good luggage.
Have a great time.

have a looking in your local camping or hiking store for gear, like X plates and bowls, jetfast boilers, you can even get titainium knife and fork sets.
not shore witch way your going but the silver city high way has lots of dirt bits north of broken hill, and only dirt after tibbaburra. I did 60,000km of road mapping in far nw nsw, 200,000km in in four states, QLD,NSW,VIC, TAS. your going to see lots of nice country. very remote country too, maybe and emergancy becon(hiking style) would be a good safety backup too......
MAAATE green with envy
Only advice I have is WATER WATER WATER and some warm clothes. It might be a desert but it gets farking cold out there. I believe in minimum is best your on a major highway so provided you take the basics help wont be far away.
Enjoy ya lucky bastard
If you are coming up through the Alice make sure you bring plenty of warm clothes, its down into the minus's here are the moment, the top temp today so far has been 12 degrees. Also plenty of water, even if its cold.
lucky bugger !!! all the advice is sensible , have a great trip , let us know how it all works out .
