I've not really had any major dramas with my 48.. But I'm running mid controls which probably redistribute the rider weight a little more over the bars, also I'm 75kg and notched up the rear preload (as per factory specs for my weight).

I will add I've never had a bike so sensitive to tyre pressures before, a 4 or 5 psi drop on most bikes makes little difference, on the 48 it's really noticeable.

My next step will be biltwell tracker bars, about an inch lower and a little more forward, stock it does feel like alot of rearward weight.

The front end knocks and skits across any uneven surface because you are missing the tire!!!!

    Kidding.....Thanks for the information!

Looking at the Progressive Suspension charts,  04 and up on all XL models you use 11-1527 which has a 3" spacer. Although the HD Damper Tubes have different part numbers, I can only assume that they are shorter than the one we used out of the Dyna. Therefore the longer the spacer, shorter the Damper Tube equals less travel in the forks and gives a stiffer ride. Looking at Scouser on his 48 and Angel on her Nightster and the vibration they had come up through the forks, I could see that the modification I had done to our 48 was well worth it, because I suffered no vibration or bad handeling at all. For the small cost and the couple hours it takes to do, I would tell all Sporty owners to do this mod.

    G'day Andrew,

I don't think there should be a problem but I'll PM you next week, when I get a chance to do some homework.

    Hi all,

First time Harley owner here - 48 MY2012. V&H matte black short shots, V&H air cleaner and SE Tuner.
It's going an absolute blast so far.

My thanks and appreciation to Oldman, Scouser, T1, 48fab, Viob, maachine and others who have led the way with the Oldman conversion. The forum info on here is invaluable.

I'm going ahead with the front conversion - Progressive springs. Have a query with regards to the Dyna dampers - the mob (Deus ex machina -Camperdown, Sydney) recommended gold valve emulators - any thoughts, views and advice on this?

Braking - XR calipers - 4 pot vs 6 pot? (pot=piston? All new to me, like Latin - am on a happy and steep learning curve here) - was also asked to check if the XR calipers will leave enough room re: wheel spokes. Could someone kindly forward me the XR caliper model/parts number?  Am planning to get braided lines as well.

Engine clatter/ticking noise - normal? I raised this issue at the dealers during the first service (two weeks ago) at Trivett HD in Alexandria - was given the standard - 'we checked and tightened the belt and everything's fine'. The whirring/clattering noise has increased since then.  Had test ridden several 48s prior to my purchase - no recollection of such noise.

Can anyone also recommend a brilliant HD mechanic in Sydney?

    Regards,
    CL

+ 1 to the Ricor Intiminators. They transforfmed my bike. I'm 100kgs. The recommended oil height is just right for me.

Hey Darkeyes088 on the topic of a mechanic you can trust speak with Dean from Loaded Motorcycles in Kirrawee on 9545 0067. He has done a 883-1250 conversion and other bits and pieces for me and both the workmanship plus the prices are very good and come recommended.

I'm super keen to do this to my 48, just weary about taking the forks apart by myself, Anyone in the Perth area keen on lending a hand might inspire me to get it sorted. :)
