Issue Notes The hemispheric long wave pattern has been relatively fast moving in recent weeks. There are five main troughs. Currently the most significant troughs are near the longitudes of the southwest Indian Ocean, eastern Australia, the southeast Pacific, South America, and the Atlantic Ocean. Summary: Over southern and eastern Australia the cold front events with potential to bring widespread rain are now expected about 4 September to 8 September, 8 September to 12 September, and 21 September to 25 September. Rain events originating in the tropics and moving south are possible about 29 August to 2 September, 2 September to 6 September, and 25 September to 29 September. Over Western Australia the strongest cold fronts should occur about 1 September to 5 September, 5 September to 9 September, and 12 September to 16 September.
