Alright...to say I'm mechanically challenged is an understatement, so I need some help. I have an 09 XR1200. I went to start it and the battery was flat. I charged the battery, bought a trickle charger to maintain it over winter, and put it back together. When i turn the key to ACC, i get instrument and head light. When I switch to ignition everything goes off. Any ideas?

Check the voltage,ignition on voltage should be above 12.50v. if not replace the battery

Bugger,  was the battery fully charged?  12.8v.  the battery could still be the problem, just putting a load on it ( head light ) may have just highlighted the fault.

make sure all your earths are really good and clean.

I think the battery is rooted. I did pull the maxi fuse out first as the alarm goes off as soon as you disconnect the battery if you don't.

I had the battery tested today and she's buggered. Got a price of $180 for a new one!
