Yep 2008’s the best. Especially that flame orange colour. Love the look of the 2009 but that 240 rear doesn’t do the handling any favours.

this IS the best 2008 "color" ( sorry colour haha !) Oh , and yes I am biased...

And yes I do like the stock CVO 255 cams , they seem to be suited to this model.

All the "spank" is low down the revs , very little if no "wind up' required

Springer good as never changes wheel base, works like a leading link. but hard on steering head bearings.

I know nothing about the Softail Springer but I have an aftermarket narrow springer on my bike and I love it, would be very interested to try it out with a shock to see what difference that makes though. I agree with that comment about everyone stopping to ask about it though. Don't think I've ever stopped at a servo without someone talking to me about it or even taking pictures.
New bike has a replica HD springer on it, haven't ridden it yet but hoping to get some miles steering it in the next couple of months.

    agree with Greg,
2008, black diamond, 200 rear end, painted oil tank, etc etc
SE 255's are the perfect fit for the bike, had 98 hp 115 tq
now running SE 263's  134 hp  122 tq
but had a re-paint because i didn't lock in the side stand.
    i fckn love my Springer

While the SE255 cam gets canned by most I’m also pretty happy with it in my stock 110. I play with the idea of an SE585 with 4degree advance key, guess I should decide soon before HD deletes them

Is the Springer front end ever "coming back" ? Last model the Crossbones 2008/9 OR the 2009 CVO Springer.

Apparently not, Incompatible with ABS so the prevailing logic goes.

    I can't see why , but WTFugg do I know ?

It is probably just too expensive to manufacture and having rebuilt a Springer front end I can half understand why !

Frasers here in WA put a "2006" BUILT FROM NEW PARTS Springer front end onto a 2011 Softail and apparently had MAJOR dramas doing so !

A directive from above ( SENIOR MANAGEMENT !) NEVER AGAIN...

Hey Retro, I’m no expert either and wanted to convert my CVO Fatbob, as pictured it’s possible but I was advised against it along the lines that Dyna head stem isn’t strong enough and needs mods to accomodate appropriate bearing supports and grease nipple etc. So thinking about the vibration/pulsing that a working ABS puts out under heavy breaking, maybe that’s why they aren’t compliant.

I have seen that photo of the Dyna/Springer before now. 100% Aftermarket front end that , even the front fender. No Shocker is the biggest giveaway.

Fancy front caliper is another "clue". Some of those aftermarket Springer fronts are well regarded ( eg Paughco) and some are DIRE indeed !

The one Frasers built was quoted on before delivery of the bike , and proved to be a REAL headache for them , even putting OEM 2006 Softail Springer stuff onto a 2011 was so griefsome they declared NEVER AGAIN ! I actually bought the "New bike take-off" complete 2011 telescopic front end off the guy in 2017 and got the whole story !

He had to sign a disclaimer that he accepted he had lost his ABS in the process

So the featured Dyna conversion must have been a real hard job to be honest

Have ridden them all, but never a SPRINGER.

None of my mates have springers, and there's none around for test riding.

I've read all the reviews on the 'net for the Cross-Bones, but I want YOUR opinion!!

I've promised the wife that my next hog is my last, and as I've always loved the look of the springer front end - do they work well enough on Australian roads?

    Mick8

    G'day Mick8,
    I ride a xbones.
The first day I rode it I thought well that was a waste of 28 grand.
But like most things 6 months later I'm blowin other bikes away in the twisties.
I have a SE 110 in mine which makes it a lot easier.
Your welcome to come and ride mine if I can ride yours.
An hour or so will let you know.
Maintenance is different a squirt with my special formula on the front end before a ride. Some bearings replaced after a long while. I've machined my own porous brass bearings for mine which I will never need to touch again.
Wide bares help, it is a slight wrestling match at first, but I go one handed now into the tight stuff.
    Piece of piss.
