My brother and sister in law were riding around Mt Glorious on Saturday PM on their 1200 modified sportster. Sister in law wearing full leathers, open face helmet. Brother does not know how it happened but it appears something let go, sister in law highsided and brother low-sided. Brother scared when wife appeared to be not breathing, rolled her into recovery position, coughed up blood and started breathing. Broken ribs, broken collar bone, broken shoulder blade, punctured and collapsed lung, liver membrane pierced but no bleeding.
No abrasions, no head damage. He's OK apart from fear of losing beloved and sore limbs. He's a very experienced rider, by the way, having bought his first bike as a young man and having covered thousands of kilometres in eastern Australia and Tasmania. He won the H-D at the Bombala meet last year.
Take care out there.
Hank
wishing your sister inlaw a speedy recovery
Thanks for all your thoughts. I've passed them on. Brother is very grateful and sends his thanks to all. Hard time for him too. So far he hasn't been booked for "careless driving", as often happens up here.
Jen has just been transferred from intensive care to a ward. Has to wait a week to see that her lung continues to be inflated. Then surgery for pins in shoulder blade, to collar bone and look at ribs. May be a 2 to 3 week stay. But she is one of the strongest women I know; has had many difficulties in early life. She is no victim. My heart goes out to her.
Best wishes
Hope all goes well, have a young female friend come off her Harley a month ago. The first news was that things were not looking good, hit me for six. Stay safe everybody.
+1 all the best to your sister in law
