Big Sucker Stage 1 Cover

I had an Arlen Ness Stage 1 fitted yesterday on the FatBob and my stock cover put over the top. Looks stock but that's how I wanted it.

Got home and found that the top of the cover has rubbed against my tank and has taken the paint off and am down to bare metal.

Had a look at the covers for the stage 1 from Arlen Ness and I am not that impressed. Any ideas on where I can look at replacement covers to suit online or is there something I can do to prevent the rubbing? Maybe 2-way sticky taped black rubber on the tank??

    After some ideas.

That's what I would have thought. It has the chrome mounting bracket on instead of the standard steely one but would not have thought it would have made a difference?

Am thinking I need to buy a Dremel or something to grind the side of the cover down but don't wanna f_ck it up :-\

It wasn't actually rubbing when I left. There was about a 5mm gap between the cover and the tank. I guess on the way home over bumps and what not things have come together, hence the current topic of conversation.

I was going to give them a call tomorrow and see what we can do as they were really good to me.

Will let you know what the outcome is.

Yes, they used the o-rings, I watched them get stuck in :-)

Whoever fitted it should step up and fix it--- So now it's the 24th what did they say?

Based on your 5mm gap measurement the question to them is "where did the 5mm go"? Could the tank fasteners have been backed off by them when they fitted it and they forgot to re-tighten them?

Good luck and DO let us know.

The stock cover on my 2010 Fat Bob is actually different to that one cw1986. It's not exactly an egg shape. It's kinda tear drop oblong'ish.

It's certaily closer to the tank now with the Arlen Ness bracket than the standard one was before.

Am getting it looked at this Friday and have the utmost faith in their ability to fix the issue.

Ok, sorry about the late update but all has been rectified.

Turns out the Arlen Ness Stage 1 kit sent out was for a Softail not a Dyna. Hence the rubbing on the tank.

They have removed the Stage 1 and replaced it with a "Wimmer - The Better Sucker". The filter is a bit bigger than the filter that came with the Arlen but I am not complaining. Clearence is fine, the fitting is fine and it has not made any difference to my tune.

    So.....all's well that ends well

Get yourself a fuel tank lift kit and raise it by an inch or two at the front!

No need anymore as different mounting plate has the stock air cover in a different position.

Yes, they did fix up the paint. Unless you really look, you can't really see anything. Glad I chose a black bike
