Rear indicator options

Well got the rear guard off at the moment and a mate is respraying it for me. He is going to weld closed the holes where I drilled through the guard where I had the indicators positioned.

It got me thinking and after some googling last night and today about possible relocation kits or whatever for the indicators I purchased a Kuryakun kit www.kuryakyn.com/Products/3908/Turn-Signal-Relocator-Kit but am still not sold on it. I was also looking at something like this  greatbikegear.pinnaclecart.com/harley-davidson-dyna-glide/ bit too bulky looking I reckon. They are about the only 2 kits I can find for a 2000 SGS.

This is where they sit at the moment and while it might look alright from that angle they don't quite sit level from behind because of the lip in the guard. They also face inwards and it pisses me off every time I look at it.

Wondering if anyone else has tried something different or have any ideas and suggestions? I'm also getting the license plate mount holes filled in as well so options are open there as well.

On the struts is an option for sure. Problem I have though is the 10.5" shocks. Does your rear wheel sit closer to the left hand side of the guard than the right?

When I bought the bike the previous owner had indicator set-up using one of those number plate shrouds which has the indicator on each side as per the ebay link www.ebay.com.au/itm/NUMBER-PLATE-FRAME-INDICATORS-SUIT-HARLEY-CHOPPER-/300551590277 the reason I think is because he had either lost or misplaced the clips that sit under the guard to hold the wiring in place. The clips are there for the main wiring up the center of the guard but not the one's that run off to the side for the indicators, even the little notches that hold the clips on are gone.

I can get something welded back in there but am now thinking (after more googling) about the tail light/indicator set-up that the 48 is using, wonder how much they bloody cost...

I looked at the 48 setup, somewhere around $2-300 from memory, but would be a good option, and removes the centre brake.
Tyre closer to the left ? yes it is. Had me stuffed thinking the struts were bent !
I did come accros a low profile indicator mounting kit that has a bracket to keep the wiring away, used with later bikes supplied with the HD wide tyre kits, but I just drilled some mounting bolts hollow for the wiring to pass through, and machined the heads down so the wiring cleared the tyre.

Edit: Thinking more about it, I think the wheel is actually closer to the right ??

Just rang Harley dealer and the 48 turn signal/brake light set-up is priced at $400 EACH! On the upside he mentioned that come end of June/July the prices on parts will be coming down due to the dollar.

Triumph setup looks good ...doesnt suit me though as i use throw over type saddlebag that fits in between the shock and original indicator location . thats why im looking at getting the lights back near the plate or tail light

might end up making my own aswell. going to make something off the laydown plate holder . just tube straight thru and mount the lights off the end . can make it suit the 300mm as mentioned by rodders . nice and simple the re powder coat .Done .

Bloke from Cycle Vision got back to me about the Eliminator and said the side lights have a red lens but turn amber when indicating. Just the issue of them being only about 200mm apart. Would be an easy fix having everything all in one.

Make sure you post some pics when done. Sounds like a good idea.

Got these from HDBits About $40 I think.

Machined up the alloy stem to suit the 8mm thread on the indicator & 3/8 unc to bolt to the bike.

Drilled a 6mm hole up the bolt, powdercoated the stem & done.

Well not that it matters too much but thought I'd throw up a pic of the indicator relocation to the bottom shock mounts. Am still toying with putting it up near the top shock mount or now that I have removed the belt guard I could use the bracket at the end of the swing arm which hold the belt guard but I would need to get a bracket made for the other side. Would like to have ultimately used the Sportster tail/brake/indicator light set up and done away with the standard tail light set-up and chopped the rear fender.

I bought a $20 part as per the link in the post above and just ran the wiring up the frame to the underside of the seat.
