Howdy Guys i attempting to put some new indicators (mini bullet style) on my 07 night train and i removed just one standard one and noticed that it had two wire's and the new ones only one , anyways figuring the purple wire was power and the black earth i thought I’d just loosely wire up one to see if it worked. All i did was basically hold the purple one to the single wire from the new one and put the black one against the body but it didn't work. My question is because it’s a different style including globes would i need to wire them all up for it work or did i not wire it up correctly and need to splice and connect properly or have i just bought the wrong ones for this model . Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers Wayne

Have you checked you didn't blow a fuse ?

All the three other indicators are working , the standard ones that is so unless there all on seperate fuses thats not the issue . As i got these from europe could it be something with the bulbs like different types for different countrys maybe thats a issue but it all looks simple enough the only other thought is if they take differnt power loads from the standard style maybe i need to hook em all up to get em to work.

The bulbs are rated at 12V 21W do they sound right for the bike ?

OK I have fitted numerous LED lamps over the years, most times when it doesn't work it's because the standard flasher can gets no reading from the LED lamp, fitting a LED flasher can fixes the problem, that could be your drama, the bike's flasher can is not receiving a signal from the LED light.

Not knowing what type is used on a Harley I can't say what type to get.

Test it by hooking up both lights at the same time, that way the flasher can will get a reading from the OE globe & might power the LED at the same time.

Also remember to test the hazard lights to make sure they run on the same unit.

    Good luck.

Thanks Toxic but there not LEDs just normal bulbs all be it smaller bulbs but i just checked and they are rated the same in voltage and watts so now i'm really at a loss because it should be a simple splice and go , so this makes no sense.

right, sorry missed that bit, thought the mini billets were LED's, OK so if there are two OE wires & only one on the new set, the earth for the new ones must be via the mount, check how the globe holder makes it's earth & ensure it OK, could be seeing they're from OS that they are positive earth, not negative earth, happens sometimes.

The globe holder screws to the inside of indicator which is made of metal so that should earth it (i Think) where should i attach the earth off the originals or should that be bassically taped up and taken out of the picture because at this stage i have loosely secured it to the frame as a earth . could that be the problem.

Like Scotty said, get the globe to work first, use some wire & power the globe up, then you'll know it's OK, then see how the globe holder earth's, might be easier on ya bench wif a battery, if the holder screws in, make sure the contact area is clean, if the OE earth is not required, hook it up to the frame, the frame should be the negative earthing point for the bike, no, that way it should keep it in the circuit, I would guess it would have to be hooked up to keep the indicator circuit closed.

No probs i'll check the globes do i need to earth the globes to check or just run a wire from the + of the battery to the base of the globe and it should light up . Sorry Guys never done that before , can i just try it of a car battery or what.

On my bike I have a small earth wire from bottom of bar mounts to forks as theirs not enough contact with rubber mounts in the bars.

You'll also need a load equaliser
