G'day fellas, looking for some advice on the best shock upgrade for a Dyna Streetbob.... Narrowed it down to YSS and IKON by doing a bit of research, but haven't personally had any experience with either. (FYI I ride solo and weigh a whopping 72kgs with no luggage).

    Any advice welcome. Cheers, Berms.

cm, hilly... I did contact IKON by email, and Geoff was more than happy to promptly answer my queries all via email.

I had no problem with customer service, I just don't know how good their product is compared to others like YSS.

Hey Berms, have a look at the above there's a bit on the Ikons there.the general feeling seems to be nothing special
but a lot better than stock!! I must say I'm a little supprised at the lack of choice in shocks for the dyna,I've been looking
on and off for months now and have'nt found many too choose from.Seems most of the blokes in the US run with the
progressive but I don't think they cut it on our great roads here in AUST.Anyway good luck with the search and let us
    know how you get on

I have run Ikon, Yss and Ohlins. I use Ohlins on my FXDX they are the best without doubt. The YSS run a close second with Ikon trailing behind.

My landlord runs only YSS on his bikes with great results. On his Ducati he is having to rework his front forks as the YSS shocks make the standard forks look sad.

YSS are cheaper than the Ohlins and are probably a better choice for road use. Speak to Walter and he will set them up for you.

As Steamer says, whichever you choose make sure to have them custom set for you and your bike.

they have specific shocks for harleys with a hd number as a prefix .the yss are cheaper and have a good dealer network in australia .last time i had dealings with ohllins aust was some years ago but werent impressed with attitude .berms if you go for quality rear end youll have to improve the front end it depends on how much you want to spend at least with ikon or yss you can get customer service and they can do complete package front and rear .improving the handling and brakes comes before horsepower its good youre thinkin about improvin your ride mate

I am the guy who developed premium shocks for Harleys by starting by Penske several years ago. Due to the high cost of Penske we went into negotiations with YSS as a second, alternative choice.  I had every model YSS for evaluation.  Still have one set left.  I had to face the fact that either I sell the best suspension or not.  I tested YSS using many Harleys and decided that the performance is butter than stock but that is not what we wish to do.

A few years ago I started investigating Öhlins.  I found them to offer the same great performance as Penske but they are mass produced reducing the cost almost by 1/2 than a Penske.  Since we have many HD's here in the USA, testing and perfecting the shocks for HD's was a must.  Öhlins may know much about Sports Bikes but they do not ride Harleys, hang out with Harley riders, or know what the majority of HD riders wish their bike to ride like.  Very rarely does a shock ((all makers) perform exactly to meet an individual discerning riders needs "out of the box".

I own 5 bikes, have several professional willing riders who own their own bike, we test every product we sell.  We select the features and length required by the customer than build it for them.  There is no "buying a shock from the factory” and selling it out of the box.  If that was possible (one size fits all), I would not sell suspension but would sell wife’s with a guarantee against being defective, there is more money in that business model.

We build everyone for your needs, specifications, and riding style.

Pricing: I am a sponsor on the USA version of HDF and give a substantial discount as we only support HDF & the XR1200™ Owners Group Forum.  I have sold a few sets to customers down under, so my repetition is easily be found by Google on this form.

Premium performance at a price below inferior performing products, it is your call.  Where price is no object, why do champions always choose Öhlins?  If having your shocks built for only you, a better price than you will find anywhere in the world (that I am aware of) and the support of the Öhlins network interests you, than drop us a line.

Berms I run Ohlins HD215's on my Harley. Their model number is 36PRCLB. I have a cartridge front end with Race Tech Gold Valves and springs.
The landlord runs YSS RG302-360 TRCL-11's on his 2010 GT100 and will be fitting an Ohlins USD fork set in the future.

Walter at YSS in Adelaide can set them up to suit you and has a kit for your front end as do Race Tech in California.
I like Howard's gear better, especially the cartridge kits.

I bought some Burly Brand 10.5" shocks. Awesome if you like scraping pipes on one side and primary on the other side!
