Hi , I have a 1988 softail with 18" carriage works wheels with metizler130/80 rear tyre. I want to go a wider rear wheel without changing to much of the configeration. The 88 has a very wide belt which currently cleares the rear tyre by about 10mm . if there are any techsperts out there I would like to hear from them with suggestions.

Should be able to squeeze a 150 in there without too much hassle!.............any wider is going to require mods.

    Burto.

Should be able to change to a later style skinny belt by changing pulley's.
What width is the rear rim now ?

    Thanks for the complements.

The Rims are a major feature of the bike as the pully and PM brake disk all match. both front and back.

I might have a chat to the local tyre guy re the 150 and see if I get any better width, if not I don't think any changes will really benifit the look if the bike. I really do like it as it is ...
