this is a hard one witty , i was hopeing that someone else would reply , but looks like its up to me. Buying a bike , car , home . can be a dangerious exercise , the outcomes can range from great to bloody horrible , lifes a gamble at the best of times . All i can suggest is , do your research , then do some more . First check all the other Harleys on the various websites that are simular in price , drive around to the different shops and compare the simular bikes in the flesh , show up early and watch them start it from dead cold , touch them , listen to them running , ride them , if you cant ride them , get one of your mates to ride them. If its from a shop , like Heavy duty cycles at least it has clear title. Owned by a Harley mechanic , who says , what proof is supplied , can you talk to the bloke ? Rides beautiful you say , who says , did you ride it ? Recently serviced , lets see the records , books , receipts. What sort of warranty comes with it , if any ? Dings in the tank , nothing to worry about . At the end of the day , your the one with the money , its your call , be carefull . Good luck.
thanks for the reply
i will do my homework as i want my first harley experience to be a good one
might have another look today
it might turn out ok but in the end its a second hand bike and will no doubt give you some grief .Your half way to a new 883 with a warranty .
well witty , thats a shame but sometimes these things turn out for the better. 48 Fan is right when he says your half way there to a new 883 with warranity . Seeing as this is your first Harley it might be a good thing to bite the bullet , save like crazy and buy new. I know times are tough and this might not be an option for you ( or me for that matter )but just a thought . Whatever you buy second hand there is nearly always some small thing that needs to be done . Good luck with your endevours and keep looking , whatever you do , dont rush in because someone else might beat you to the bike , this is a recipie for disaster . I believe all things happen for a reason . Today was not your time to get that bike , it might be the best thing that ever happened to you.
Mr. Mow , i sure wish that picture was my bike , i found that picture on the google site , just googled Harley davidson bobbers and that picture came up . When i get a 883 , probably 2 to 3 years from now , sooner if i win the lotto , thats what im going to turn it into , although i will have a front brake ( dont want to be a boot imprint on some lucky car driver ) . My actual bike is a 1998 Kawasaki Zephyr 550. For the last year i have been very lucky as i am looking after a friends 2007 . 883 with Screamin Eagle pipes ( Loud ones too ) and a high flow air filter . I am so impressed with this bike , and boy have i had a few bikes over the years ! I actually prefer rideing the 883 over my Zephyr . Lets just say im looking after the 883 for another two years , i will try and buy the bike if that opportunity comes up.
