Gidgee, from what I understand it's not the blokes or the kids that you refer to the are the gouge recpients but the greedy bastard middlemen who've managed to get between H D USA and those of us who love to ride the rumble. If the hat fits wear it.   pete.

You know what... The simple solution to all you wankers that are whining about high prices. Just go and buy a bike in the USA and bring it over yourself. Then you can sit back and smile that you got your bike cheaper than some of us. It will make you feel like you beat those shafting bastards at their own game, and the rest of us can be happy that you are happy.

I am the first one that will whinge that parts are cheaper OS than here, and bought a fair bit of my stuff from there. I don't get on and whine like an old cat - I act on it.

So instead of wasting your energy on shit you can't change - go focus your energy on getting a late model HD from the good old USA and bringing it in and be happy.

Umm.. yeah you can. Plenty here are doing that already. You just can't buy brand new. It has to be owned first.

Thanks Mongrel. I think at the end of the day whether its a Harley or a Kelvinator market forces are going to determine pricing. The open discussion about importing bikes and parts at cheaper prices on the forum is testament to that. If I were a dealer my ring would be tight at the moment I reckon. No different than being in the construction game.

+1 for that! Just like the old video store - How many people did their cash in one of them. Times change, and so does the market - and I agree - the market, and profits will determine prices.

Just been doin a few sums on cost of harleys here in aus ,ultra classic usa $22'074 retail in aus dollars $20'151 ,in aus ret $36'995,thats a lazy $16'844 more expensive  , also remember that is retail in usa so take out any usa retail sales tax and there dealers profit and you end up with a absolute shit load of  cash just because you can.   I love Harley's but mate there just plain gougeing, they should have hang there heads for biting the hand that feeds them.   the exchange rate is 30/7/11

I'm a blue collar worker, I bought my Harley new in 2009, I have done 30-35,000 klm on it, I've seen a hell of a lot of one of the greatest countries, Australia. And, yes it cost a lot of money for the bike. BUT WHO GIVES A SHIT.

I love my bike and all the new people and experiences I've had. Yes their are problems with our Government, but they can't take away where and what this bike have done for me and my SANITY.

If, and that is a very BIG IF, somebody gets the ball rolling on this project and needs my signature on a petition or to ride to Parliment, I'm there.

But like most people, I have a family to feed and mortgage and don't have enough brains to get something like this started, but for Christ sake, Shut the fuck up, go out to your garage, start your HD up and go for a RIDE so you can remember why you bought it in the first place.

long wait on the soft tail range I think they be the same price as the currents ones so they hold off till they clear stock or everyone would go the 103.

Yeah Rob, but do you know why??

The Sportster's price was already low and was done so to get more of the market of those that couldn't shell out $30K. Add to that all the new tech like ABS etc and of course they are going to go up! But don't use this data to confuse the topic of this thread.

If you think for a minute that HD are going to put their prices up when their sales numbers are down, you are kidding yourself.

I wonder how many people will be screaming in a few months when our dollar hits 80c and the price of a new HD is the same as it is now. I bet nobody will be asking HD to put the prices up to counter the dollar - I will give you the tip.

The only reason you are going to see an increase in the price of a Softail is the 103 upgrade. However, I bet when you take the price of upgrading a 96 and then see the price of the 2012 model - it will be cheaper to buy the 103 than upgrade a 96 - that's my gamble.

    Watch this space!! :)
