Hi All
I may have a small problem with my 03 1200 sport . It has a twin front discs and the hand lever seems to come about half way to the grips before the pads appear to move. No complaints about the braking force, it's real two finger stuff, except that my other two fingers get sandwiched between the lever and the grip making it nessary to use my whole hand for serious braking.
I've changed the fluid and bled and bled then bled some more for only marginal improvement. Has anyone else experianced this and if so is there an easy fix, or maybe even a difficult one.
Thanks
Bloke
Thanks guys, the discs are deffinately not warped as I would feel it in the lever pulsating however I've never had the callipers apart for cleaning
And I did use Dot 5.1 fluid although there would not be anymore of the old Dot 5 left as I would have replaced all of the old fluid with all the line bleeding.
I'll go buy some Dot 5 and change the fluid again anyway. I didn't realize that Dot 5 and Dot 5.1 were all that different and I'll give the bungee cord idea a go.
If that dosen't yeild any better results then I'll strip the callipers and clean em in the next couple of weeks.
Gday Bloke I posted a brake question in the general question section a while ago its about on page 4 now and got some good replies one was a link to a write up all about brakefluids is interesting should check it out .
Phew thanks for that SG Nearly had the calipers split LOL.
I think that I probably would have removed all the Dot 5 while bleeding, as I filled the reservoir at least 10 times and bled and bled both lines, and now I reckon only Dot 5.1 would be in the system.
I'll pull the top off the reservoir and check though. Need to avoid that bad ju ju at all costs.
After reading the info on fluid types that ANDYK suggested ( very informative thanks ) I'm wondering if it's worth replacing the 5.1 with 5 as the only advantage seems to be protection from paint damage in the event of a spill, along with the apparent problem of air being very difficult to remove.
I haven't yet tried the bungee cord fix as I've a few bikes plus a couple of cars and they don't all fit at home so there's a rotation system in order, gotta love mother in laws sometimes, I call her place the toy box .
Thanks for the help fellas
