My wife and I ride my Iron all the time, we're weighing in at around 140kgs and have no issues now. I had a similar experience to Jim76, original shocks were rubbish and continually bottomed out so I bought a set of the HD Heavy Duty two up springs and haven't had an issue since.

without changing the shocks it will be like  riding a fat chick it will woble all over the place

i went for 12 inch  progressive  2 up weight 185kgs  on a 1200   does it easy   but my arse is  close to the road  so seat issue is not a problem

its loud its harley dont frig with nature

Plenty of power for 2up, standard Harley shocks need to be replaced if you are going to be riding 2up or they will bottom out even on the hardest setting.

Seat you will need to get a large seat like the sundowner to be comfortable as the standard seat is no good.

All up the 883 will do the 2up riding, but to be honest I have done it on my partners bike and with me riding it is very cramped making you feel like your sitting on the tank the whole trip. The bigger bikes in the Harley range are more suited to constant 2up riding.

maybe weight is the issue, let us know how much you both weigh, im 60kg and my miss's is 41, so i think we'll be fine for 2up.

I've had to double a mate after he broke his bike, and my 08 883c had a noticeable power drop.  It wasn't as if you couldn't maintain 100 on hwy but you might need to drop a cog on a steep hill.
