I just received info that Polaris shares went up 20% in one day, now trading at $110/share.... Polaris says:

Polaris Industries said yesterday that third- quarter profit rose 6.5 percent, helped by sales of its off-road products and Victory motorcycles.

Net income increased to $39.5 million, or $1.74 a share, from $37.1 million, or $1.57 a share, a year earlier, the company said. Sales rose 4.6 percent to $447.7 million from $428 million.

Sales increased 27 percent for Victory motorcycles.....

    FWIW

Nothing against Victory, but if you want a "better" bike than the HD, why not go to a BMW and just bypass another hunk of heavy US metal? A lot of the HD appeal is respect for the history and what the brand has achieved and stands for. Even though the current models are international hydrids including Porsche input into electronics (and the V Rod donk) and the wheels on the Iron being made in Australia, they still look and feel like the real thing so hopefully Indian manufacture won't impact on this. If it did it would be the end of the brand and one thing you have to admit about HD is that they are great marketers and the brand is the #1 thing they have to protect.

All this talk about Harley needing to lift their game......don't get me wrong, they could always use improvement but the fact remains that they still outsell all other brands when it comes to road bikes...................

from MCNews.......the sales figures for 1st quarter 2011. The percentages are the difference to 1st Q 2010 sales,so yeah!, they are down in sales, but not as much as many others inc. Honda!

Don't forget that many of these other brands "road bikes" include smaller capacity bikes which obviously HD don't sell. Imagine if you took all of Hondas  "<883cc" bikes out of the figures!
