HD Australia should be converting it for us, as that is not even our legal "CB Frequency Allocation"...  You could only talk to another Ultra, near  useless...

I want Road Reports, Accident reports, road closures, the general Truckie Information when ever you see the road shutting down ahead...    I was stunned to find out my new Big Blue CVO Ultra was coming in with a crummy CB on board.  I am spoiled, travelling interstate Qld to Vic with horses in my Mack and getting the road reports relayed back..    For $50,000 HD Australia should be able to do better than that.

Any FLHT Riders done the integrated change over to UHF?  Or is it in the too hard basket???

Hi Cowboy, yep gotta agree with you on all counts. I have recently done the changeover or moreover the addition to my 08 Ultra by adding a Starcom kit from Dale McLean Electronics. Try Dale at http://www.dmme.com.au/StarCom1.htm for what you want to do; he is very helpful and will assist in choosing the best system for your needs if you want.

What did I do? By using a StarCom1 Goldwing Enhancement with a Harley mod you can add in a separate UHF radio into the system that integrates with the current setup and also allows a mobile phone hookup as well. I purchased a GME TX680 handheld that fits onto the handlebars via a RAM fitting attached to same. A separate push to talk (PTT) button is also fitted that is routed to the small electronic box fitted wherever you want to fit it..in my case under the seat. You route the PTT cable from the side of the handheld to the unit. The unit fits in line with the current system. The existing intercom/audio cable from your helmet plugs into the unit (via a cable) and from the other side you connect into the plug on the tank. It works like a 3rd intercom coming into the system. Voila!

I did the work myself as Dale was a little too far away from me but it wasn't that difficult if you have a few practical skills. Anyway look it up and feel free to ask me questions if you like.

Wow, AussieRanger, thank you for that...

I did not think it was so complicated... I thought we could just buy and "in dash" unit, and put it inside the fairing somewhere, and integrate it into the CB wiring...  I was hoping to kind of replace the CB unit with the same functions and just change out the antennae.

Well, anyway, thank you, and if there are no other solutions to doing this, when BIG BLUE gets here in July, I will follow up on your method..

They make these little in dash units, out of sight, that only have a display on the dash.  I was hoping for this total integration into the existing system with just plug modifications and of course the antennae change.  If this proves impossible I may do your mod.  I have stored the post to me in my Email box "Biker Contacts" and will follow up if nothing better presents..  If I AM ABLE to integrate it just replacing the CB part with UHF, I will certainly come back to you...

    Thanks again, Cowboy
