Swap Fatbob Forwards to Mids

Hey all as the subject suggests, thinking of doing the change from forwards to mids on my 2009 fxdf. I've run mid mount pegs for about a 3 months now while maintaining the forwards. I really like the extra control and comfort ( I am a short ass). I was thinking of changing over the controls to mids as well and have highway pegs as well. Basically a reverse of what i have now.

I guess the question i have is has any one done the change over on a fatbob?

And considering i already have the mid pegs and controls will i only need to obtain inner and outer primaries?

If so does anyone have any for sale?

    I appreciate any advice.

    Cheers

I have done the swap to mine.

I bought a set of dealer take off mid mounts and also a dealer take off outer primary.  I had to buy a new inner which I got from Harley Heaven at a good price.

The mids foul the heat shield on the exhaust so I got a US spec dealer take off Street Bob system from e-bay.  I wasn't sad to lose that original exhaust that was styled around an explosion in a scaffold factory anyway.

I'm happy to answer any questions about it - I'm no expert but will answer based on my experience.

    Always happy to share, Lee.

I paid just over $400 for the inner assembly.  It has all the bearings and oil seals already in place.

I prefer mid mounts as I have particularly short legs.  I found that I wasn't happy with the pressure I could put on the brake pedal as I was already a bit stretched.  The mids give me far more confidence and I prefer the general riding position with them.  Both my previous Harleys have also had mids on them.

I did the swap on a Sunday afternoon.  And I do not have a workshop or even a garage.  I live in an apartment block and it was all done in a corner of the communal car park.

The only thing that annoys me about the set up is that I really like the Rinehart Crossback exhaust system and it only fits with forwards.

I bought a CD version of the workshop manual and made sure I had all the right tools that I'd need - Torx bits and a bar to lock the gears within the Primary.  I had gaskets and new oil at the ready too.

Hard to say if either is better.  I liked the layout of the DX with the gauges on the bars and so on.  But the DF has it's charms too and I generally ride according to the traffic these days so I don't care too much about where the speedo is.

Interesting to see the Rineharts on with mid mount pegs.  Why did you take yours off?  Still got them?

Rob, only took them off to try and chase some more power with a set of 2-1's
Much prefer the sound of the 2-2's though, and not a huge change in power.
Still have them, but they wont fit the 6 speed Dyna's properly.

So it is a five speed / six speed issue.  Shame.  Maybe I need a bigger hammer...
