    Hello all

I have found the issue with my choke ect to be a broken fitting.I have bought myself a replacement but unsure as to how to go about putting it on my 92 sporty.

If anyone can help either with advice or in person I would be greatly appreciative.

    Hi Scorp...

I assume you have a CV Carb...and you are talking about the choke cable or knob?

It is easy to do, unscrew the backing nut where the choke knob is and remove from bracket.
Next, use a 9/16 or 1/2" (can't remember what size, but I think it is 14mm or 9/16") spanner to slowly turn the plastic fitting counter clockwise on the other end of that fits into the carby.

It will want to spring back, but just keep turning......also, when you fit the new one, place a small amount of thin oil on the plunger end of the cable.
Better to fit with Carby off the bike....but being a Sporty, you should be able to do it fairly easy.

Just a note, just in case you ever decide to upgrade your Carb.....The choke cables on the CV Carbs fit straight into Mikuni HSR Carbs...they were designed for that.
Hope this has been of help to you..
    Cheers

    Hey Shaun...
To do the job properly you will need to remove the petrol tank, air cleaner and carb..

Where the knob mounts to the bracket under the tank, it bolts through the bracket that is bolted to the head stem bracket.
Undo the nut a little bit on the choke cable and then slide it through the slit on the bracket, you do not need to remove the bracket.

Fitting the cable to the Carb:
The problem is that the choke cable where it threads into the carb has an elbow on it and to remove it easier.... the carb will need to be removed.
If not, it can still be done, but you will lose patience with it, for an extra 5 or 10 mins to remove the carb saves such frustrations.

Once the tank and air filter are removed, you will have to remove the throttle cable/s, VOES line that goes to the top of the carb....a small vacuum line.
The carb is mounted to the manifold by a rubber sleeve, the carb will pull off easily. Check for splits or wear on the rubber sleeve that fits to the manifold, if worn replace it.

When carb is removed use a 9/16th open ender spanner to undo the plastic fitting on the carb, go easy for you do not want to round the nut shape or it will be a pain to get off.
Once you have the fitting loose, you will need to spin the cable around with the nut at the same time on the carb as you undo it, for it will spring back all the time.
This is why it is easier to do with the carb off the bike.

The knobs on the choke cables break all the time, seen it many times before. When you replace it with the new one, do not tighten the nut up too tight on the bracket near the head stem, just nip it.
It should/will have a lock washer on it, that will stop it from undoing by itself....so just nip it up, if it comes loose, then nip it up slightly again.

Remember, it is a plastic fitting, so don't stress it too much for being threaded it will crack

Go easy with it and you will be fine mate....not a big job....maybe a 3 can job ;)

Thanks for the details gudge , very concise The choke cable itself isnt attached to the split bracket as the threaded part where the backing nut goes is broke so I cant set it into the bracket.

I will let you know how it goes nut it wont be till the end of the weekend

[very concise The choke cable itself isnt attached to the split bracket as the threaded part where the backing nut goes is broke so I cant set it into the bracket.]

Sorry my bad way of explaining things.

The bracket is the type with a split in it.

What I meant was the choke cable wasnt attached to the bike at the moment as the threaded section where the star washer and nut is has broke in 2 pieces but the cable itself is intact.

I have removed and fitted the choke after work (kids thing was cancelled so had time) and I have fitted the carb back on the bike. I will be getting a chrome breqather pipe instead of the rubber ones as they have swelled slightly and leak a little.

I havent put the hypercharger back on as I need it off to do this and I have run out of Thread Lock so will be getting this tomorrow too.

Thank you so much as it was simple enough following your description.
