Hi guys, am new to the forums but have been around harleys for many years and im FINALLY in the position to look at getting my own.

2 bikes im looking at the most at the moment are the Fat Bob and the Wide glide.

I love the stylings of the new fat bob, but my Dad has the wide glide which ive ridden and im extremely pleased with the way the bike handles and rides.

I will be getting something second hand but it will at least 03/04 or newer except the bob which i think came out in 07 or 08.

Now handling wise, how do the fat bobs go with the larger front tire and what are the main things to look for in a 2nd hand bike.

I have the same problem that alot of people have...i like to tinker and make things my own, so what are some good upgrades for both bikes? ive been looking around but cannot find any decent suggestions and i thought here would be a great place to start.

    Cheers, Matt

no probs, i will look into it. i agree i love the look of the fat front tire, and the idea of fitting a 200 rear is looking good aswell, just not sure on the standard wheels, i prefer spokes but ill look into that later.

factory forward controls and the bars are another thing i love about the bike..goin to go with a solo seat as well, this missus isnt to keen on the bikes...she'll come around though', until then i dont need the rear seat!

see this is the dilemma, i know for a fact the wide glides are a kick ass bike, but the fat front on the bob does look tuff, how does the handling differ between the 2? not like it matters ALL that much, ill get used to either of em anyhow.

by the looks of ya pic up there your running a solo seat? am i right?

which one is it and how does it go on the longer runs?

I've ridden both at the demo day ,the fat bob handled better than the wide glide to my supprise but I like the look of the wideglide, Its up to you.You know how the wideglide handles so try the fatbob.cheers.

yeah looked around ALOT last night, im thinking the wide glide is the go, they look the shit although i probably cant afford the efi model but nothing wrong with the carb..

nice bike in ya photo to same as my dads bike in my avatar pic...i like the apes on it but there not for me..love the slammer and drag bars!

going to have to head in to harley heaven shortly and see what they have for me.

if your going slammer and drag bars maybe the fatbob would be better for you, wide glide would make it a bit strange with the forward controls etc,

Really Matt it's comes down to what you feel comfortable on, most of us here are going to be bias on what our preferences are because of what we ride. You've already taken the Wdie Glide for a spin (your old man's), maybe go down to your local dealer and see if ya can plant ya arse on a Fatbob and get a idea for how it feels for you. Like you said " like to tinker", we all do that. Just check out some of the other posts and you'll get an idea on mods you can do. Straight up if it's stock, Air Cleaner, Exhaust and Tunner is what you will want to change, there's plenty out there so do your research before ya part with your cash. Anyway have fun.
