08 sportie running like crap

I am just about ready for a friggin redhead rebuild.

Bike was going ok but lately as soon as it rains it starts to run bad, and splutter at low revs. And it takes days / weeks to get back to normal.
It goes great if I ride it under hard accelleration but as soon as I need to slow down through the village, it splutters, misses and occasionally backfires. It has been back to the dealer three times. They have tried various things and nothing has helped. I am just about ready to tell them to f##kn send it back to Harley Davidson Australia to sort out.

Originally they thought it might be the BJC Dobeck tuner. So they took that off and no change. They checked the leads, coil, fuel pressure, (not sure if they have checked relays). I even took off the SE air cleaner in case that was causing water to get in but made no difference.

I know these sorts of problems are always different and it will not always be resolved straight away but shit it is annoying when the bike runs like crap. Anyone had a similar experience? How was it fixed?

Since the sporties fusees are prone to water trickling in there I always coat the relays in dilectic (spelling?) grease. Though I'm not sure if that causes the symptoms you describe.

    Hi Bonkerz,
I'll get some today and give it a go.
Sorry for the stupid question but is it ok to put it on other electrical connections around the bike? What does it do?

    Cheers

Thanks for the info on the grease. i did not get chance to get any grease yet so I cleaned up all the relay and fuse contacts then sprayed some WD40 till I can get the grease.

I decided to syphon the petrol out of my tank and see if there was anything strange in it. I found a bubble of liquid (possibly water) in it about the size of  my middle finger and a tiny amount of flecks of crap. I went down the servo and got a jerry can of fresh fuel. I'll take it for a ride today and see if it makes any difference,

Well the bike is fixed now and running as smooth as a baby's bum.

Had a shite load of work done to it.

Bucket load of testing.  They took the BJC Gen III fuelshot tuner off since they thought initially that might be the problem - No that was not the problem.  ECM re-flashed, Injectors and fuel filter sonic cleaned, fuel tank flushed out, Dielectric grease put on the fuses and relays, intake gaskets replaced, SE ignition leads, fuel pressure checked, SERT fitted then finally dynotuned.  The dealer staged the work so I could test it following the various changes to keep the labour costs down.
Now it runs better than when it was new. Although I recon it accellerated faster when the BJC Gen III fuelshot tuner was installed.

So what was the problem... NFI.
