Hi all, I am helpin' out a friend at the moment who's a lil' down on her luck, her starter motor clutch don't feel like throwin in anymore. Anyway after having priced the damn thing its nearly worth more than the bike, so I goes hunting around e-bay, nothing has jumped out at me so far, but am still lookin. But was has bought me to here is that a coupla people have mentioned ( bar talk ) that the starter motor clutch from a certain model (s) Isuzu or that may have been suzuki (remember it was bar talk... hic) car is the exact same part and should be able to be procured at somewhere nearer her price range (pensioner)... Just wondering if anyone can help us... Cheers - Sump

P.S. If I can get any form of confirmation, I will start the rounds of auto wreckers...

 

If I remember correctly, I think harley issued a recall on the 89 FX series as this was a problem, so you would probably find that the 91 starter is an improved type. Remember seeing a 89 FXRS years ago that the starter gear would slide accross and hit the clutch hub gear ring, ooouch.

Never had any starter problems with my 91 FXR anyway.

Thanks Scotty, but already did that and you guessed it, the best auto elec that I know of in SA and has been since Noah was a lad is now seconded to PSHH full time... Matched up the part no. directly to PSHH pricelist and unfortunately I already have a 2nd mortgage on my house... he he...
