Hi guys and gals
just got a new 48 sportster never owned a Harley before ,,mostly owned big japs
not sure about a few things
have been running it in ,not done 250 ks yet and am worried have been taking it easy not thrashing it not laboring it
Im not sure if the engine should sound like it does and am worried that the pipes glow red after 2 mins when warming it up
sounds a bit chattery in the top end to me
and have noticed it has used 500ml of oil already ,checked it hot on flat ground with the stand down
can some one direct me to an apropriate thread please
cheers
Get it to the dealer post haste, sounds like they have rooted up assembling the bloody thing..seems to me that people don't give a shit about exactness anymore...just throw the bloody thing together and collect our f**kn pay...they are sensational rides when running sweetly....get it adjusted and have fun...by the way mines an 08 Heritage and she DON'T rattle...nor should yours...
By the way Davo's right...run it in as you intend to ride it............
I fell in love with the 48 as soon as I saw one and sold everything I had to get one and then some
thanks for the input ,although a bit at odds
am getting scared
hope all my mates on dukes and japs dont get to say I told you so
will report back when I speak to the dealer
am hoping the dealer just skimped on oil and the noise is just a harley thing
jase
knees in the breeze
Welcome 48 Fan hope you enjoy the forums and congrats on your new Haley.Have a look on tech tips there mite be something on there on running your bike in.
Sorry 48 Fan i did mean the workshop section and yes i would be taking it back to the dealer a.s.a.p.
welcome take it to the dealer get them to look at the bike
ok
1stly -Im an Idiot not ashamed to admit when Im wrong
upon a more in depth read of the manual I see that the oil level is suposed to be between the upper and lower level
this reduces my oil consuption to around 150 ml ,provided the dealer added the correct amount in the 1st place .
spoke to the dealer today ,hes not fussed about the red pipes or the sound coming from the top of the motor ,it a harley thing .
he did say that I should keep an eye on the oil level but is confident that some oil will be used in the running in process
he assured me harelys are tough and louder pipes will take care of the engine noise lol
that said he is express posting me some oil just in case
its got heaps of waranty and Ive got road side assistance
so Im gonna get my knees back in the breeze
thanks for the support and welcomes
Jase
p.s the guys at Geelong Harley have been good ,they got me my wheels in 2 weeks as opposed to Peter stevens that said I had to wait 6 months and that I was in a quew behind 50 other blokes
welcome jase, i`ve only clocked up 4000 on my sportster, but it has not used a drop of oil, good luck and yer i agree geelong harley are pretty good (((-;
the cars not mine but I liked the contrast
