From 'the Gold Coast Bulletin':
TONY Chicco is a big, burly veteran fireman but he struggled to hide his distress.
Two young men, both teens, had died on his watch in a high-speed crash on a quiet Molendinar street.
"This is an accident scene no one should have to see," he said, gesturing to the carnage on the footpath.
"What happened here will cause a lot of trauma to bystanders.
"From what we can tell from the impact, speed was a contributing factor.
"People need to start taking care on the roads and not speed down side streets and shortcuts."
The tragedy unfolded in Enterprise St about 3.15pm yesterday.
A 4WD making a U-turn clipped the two Gold Coast men, aged 19 and 16, as they sped towards Olsen Ave on a red motorbike.
The contact sent them spinning, slamming them into the back of a parked hatchback and hurtling 5m into the air. The pair lay sprawled and unconscious on the footpath and the motorbike skidded about 20m down the road.
One of the teens died at the scene and the other was rushed to the Gold Coast Hospital, where he died.
Rip
I've got a real problem with this. "Speed was a factor". This reads like it was the rider's fault. The 4WD was doing a U Turn. Do you think he'd have risked a U Turn if the bike had been a semi?
