Next weekend at Maitland is 'Steamfest'. And whilst the weelend is supposed to be about steam trains, on Sunday is a 'Show and Shine' in the Maitland showground across the main drag from the trains.
I have attended previous shows up there with my kit car and was amazed by the number of people that turned up with cars, bikes, trikes and trucks, and the number of people that came in the gates for a look.
It is a real family day and much recommended. Visitors get in free and exhibitors were charged a gold coin ( probably $5 or so now) donation to park in the grounds. No lock in, so you can leave as soon as you like, which is typically about 3pm for many. Once in the grounds you park where you like, and many clubs /groups stake out some space for late arrivals. To get a chance to do that you need to be all set up by 8am.
I have enjoyed being an exhibitor there, as well as just wandering around to see al the cars and toys peopl have put so much work into. It is only once you try to build something unique you realise how much work goes into one of the truly good looking bikes or cars, and that even a roughy is a lot of work.
Didnt read the 'Next weekend...' bit and went up today and all there was on was a food and drink festival. Still got to come back via Singleton and Putty Road which was fantastic. Great day, excellent road and a drop in at the Grey Gum. Wouldnt be adverse to doing it again next week if the weather is as good as today.
