Spoked Wheels for Softail

I have been impressed with this aquisition, that I have decided to let other people know of my views regarding Softail 21" front wheel change out.

I have replaced my 21" front wheel with a 19" front wheel with a 3" tire, mainly for the handling aspect, but I think that aesthetically it looks great. I have had this set up for over 5 months now so I feel as though I am qualified to provide comment.

The handling is better, although I do need to look at front fork mods for the complete package, this will be addressed soon starting with heavier fork oil and then who knows from there if there still is a need for further mods.

I have completed a trip to SA Barossa Valley and Adelaide plus numerous day blats out from Perth over this five month period and plenty of tight arse manouvering about town. I am more than happy so far.

I bought this set up after converstaion with Mr Brian Morgan from "the Spoked Wheel" out at Midland, he is a knowledge bloke and very Harley orientated.

I was considering purchasing something similar from the USA, but decided that you can't always put a price on good advice when discussing with subject matter experts, especially when your own knowledge is limited.

I should also mention that my original motivation for going down this track was that I was totally disillusioned with the croming on the front wheel rim of my 09 FXST, Brian provides a new 80 spoked (stainless steel spokes) rengineered hub from your original 40 spoked hub and then powder coates the hub. The rim is an Italian imported Alloy rim that he drills and reams out, the whole completed wheel is rust free and super easy to clean.

I will work on providing a photo in the very near future as soon as I have guided my self through the steps of uploading.

    Paul Weston.

    Hi guys
I have uploaded a photo, not the one that I wanted to paste, but it is better than nothing, I will provide a close up next week end when I am home.
    Cheers, Paul.

the body bag is a comfortable warm swag, a must when tripping down the Eyre Peninsula SA. Apparently it is very hard to obtain alloy rims, remembering that my original criteria was to have a rust free set up, so the actual selection available to meet all the essential parameters is limited.

My first reply is for Steamer, I can only relay information as it is provided to me, I believe that Mr Brian Morgan was quite honest when he informed me that what he quoted me was the best option for the sizes that I asked for, however Steamer I am under no illusion that over the last 6 or so months that there are other options available and there are even options that have not been sighted yet.

Second reply is for Sparra, Mr Brian Morgan charged me $1300 cash which also included the new 19" x 3" tyre. I know that we can buy this item from the USA for about US$900 (without tyre) but as I explained I was happy to pay a bit extra for the advice and happy to keep the small bloke going within reason.

     Paulsails01 and all,

I got a set of wheels rebuilt by Budgie at Spoked Wheels Services and I couldn't be happier. Got a 21' chromed Excell rim and S/S spokes for the front and a 16" X 3.5" chromed Excell and S/S on the rear and all for only a bit more of a cost than for the front only from HDW in the US. Because the rear is 1/5" wider than the stock it pulls the tyre out more and fills the guard better with only about 1/16" gap between the tyre and belt.

Whatever...the thing I find most attractive in the Softy Custom is the 21" wheel, spose because mines a Heritage with the chunky front wheel and guards but then luck to you as you must love it to ride it!!!
