Bike running rough and missing

Today I rode my bike home from work and it suddenly started running really rough and missing. I went on a long ride yesterday and rode to work today with no problems then out of the blue today on the way home cough cough fart (the bike not me). Fuelled up before the ride yesterday so I'm assuming it's not  bad fuel.

Anyone got any ideas why I might suddenly get this problem ?

May want to remove your spark plugs to see what condition they are in, it might reveal something bad?

Let us know what the outcome is mate, interested to know... ta

Thanks Alchemist, yeah I agree, I think I'll pull the plugs and have a look on the weekend.

Dazza after reading some posts here on the right fuel fuel I did put premium in it, last 2 fills. Thing is I did about 100 Km on that tank without any issues before she started running rough.

I always try to use Caltex. It's been pretty good so far. Currently using the Vortex 95.

Hi boofhead... I replaced my stock exhaust after around 10k. had not checked exhaust flange bolts till then. They were loose so suggest they were not checked at 8.5K service. The gasket on one had all but been worn away through vibration. Suggest you replace yours before too long if the nuts were loose. In fact Stix suggested testing leakage with WD-40. Perhaps try that first.

So after looking at everything I could think of, being in the workshop 3 times and 3 months of intermittent running like shit the problem has finally been solved.

There was a broken wire high up in the wring loom and the friggin PC3 was masking the error so there were no codes in the ecu. When I pulled the PC3 off, the engine light came on and immediately I knew I'd have a codes to work out what the problem was.

After a flat rear, a new front, new plugs, three different maps and a shitload of friggin around my bike is finally running nice.

Except of course it's now pissing with rain and is forecast to rain for the next week.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know that these piggyback units can mask codes.

    Cheers

well boof..... don't keep us in suspense... what was the problem.

I had engine light come on yesterday P1475.... I gave the bike a good wash yesterday and figured that because the location of the 02 eliminator had moved and was close to the exhaust the problem was heat. Anyway will check during the week. maybe a faulty 02 eliminator.

I had a similar problem after riding from melbourne to ringwood, bike started farting and carrying on........ apparently HD make the only machine in the world that sabotages itself and vibrates its own spark plug leads loose

    Oh sorry.

It was one of the wires in the upper loom for the front fuel injector had broken internally so you couldn't see it.

The error code was p0261 Front Injector Open /Low .

I've had a bit of a read on your P1475 and it appears to be an issue with the exhaust solenoid bypass from what I could tell (pasted from the US site below + some others)

    TT219 – November 07, 2005

    Diagnostic Trouble Code Information
    1475, 1477, 1478 codes?

These are Screamin’ Eagle Active Performance Muffler kit diagnostic trouble
codes. Code descriptions and diagnostic flow charts are covered in the
    instruction sheet J03535.
A 1477 code will be logged if an Active Performance Exhaust calibration is
flashed without the kit installed on the vehicle. If the incorrect calibration was
loaded you will need to use Digital Technician to reflash the correct calibration
    into the ECM.
If a 1475 code is logged after installation of the kit, disconnect the cable from the
servo motor and perform steps 55 through 57 of the installation instructions,
    before following the flow chart.
Steps 41 through 45 of the installation instructions pertain to ’05 models only.
The instruction sheet will be updated soon. Always check h-dnet for the latest
    instruction sheet revisions.
There is a correction to the wiring diagram below. It is on page 5 of the
instruction sheet. The Yellow wire from connector 164B location #7 goes to pin
#1 of connector 4B. The Black wire from connector 164B location #1 goes to pin
    #4 of connector 4B.
    1. Connector 164B
    3. Connector 4B

    thanks boof... my bad...

i was looking for the error code from you, having seend that you said you fixed the problems and overlooked that you had found the wire problem.

Thanks for the code diagniostic for mine... more details than i found, but since I have the 02 bypass plug in am thinking it is an issue with than.

    Again thanks.....
