    Hi Isaac,

You got it it right, I recieved a $344 negligent driving fine and loss of demerit points (no mention of how many) because i had a single vehicle major accident, and their reason is that i should have been riding to the conditions (which i was as i'm over cautious in the wet)

My son was talking to a customer where he works today and the customer mentioned that his mate lost in on the same section doing 60k in the dry 2 months ago, no injury though so i cant comment if it was reported or not.

There is no signage to say "slippery when wet" prior to that section and the posted limit on the bend prior to the patchwork and the next bend is 85kph, in the wet if would probably be safer to get off the bike and walk it, but as it was the first time i rode this section i was unaware of just how bad that section is.

    Cheers

Jeez!!! I'd be disputing that one! I don't think we have that Law here in Qld. Can they prove you weren't riding to the conditions?! Good luck fella, please keep us in the loop.

    What a dumb arse Law!!

We've got a patch of road, on a slight bend, on the way to work like that. When wet it's like ice. I hit it one day and she got the speed wobbles and nearly high sided me.

I'd be thinking of talking to your insurance company and getting them to follow up on costs. When and if that went through and they were successful then I would be chucking some claims at whoever is responsible for maintaining that stretch of road. As you said, there is no warning signs!

    Update time......

Recieved a call from the QBE assesor yesterday to say he has looked at the bike but hasn't finalized the expenses for the claim, so I went into the dealer this afternoon and enquired about how much the cost of the damages was.....

    Ready for it....

    $16,000 for parts and labour.

Will keep you updated on how it goes as I don't want the bike written off..

    update time again...

The QBE assesor rang the other day after I had spoken to the dealer (where the bike is at the moment) and expressed how I didn't want the bike written off, He asked what value I would put on the bike as he was checking the bikesales website to guage a price of what my model bike would be going for, I simply said "sentimental value" and cracked him up, we got chatting about nessesary repairs and reducing the claim costs and the assesor wouldn't cover the "modifications" which were the bars, mufflers and screen and also dropped the fork sliders from the claim (stone chips) and was 90% certain the claim would be approved. I was ok with dropping items as I already have 3 sets of mufflers and wanted the exact same bars anyway, the screen (windvest) was put on for my trip and worked well but will order the next size screen when the time comes.

Thursday QBE called to say the the claim has been approved and will take 30+ days for the bike to be repaired, I know it will take longer than this as the tank (AU$2,000)will have to be painted and shipped from the states and this will hold up the repairs.

I've already bought another set of bars and will drop them off at the dealers along with the mufflers as soon as the bars arrive.

With regards to my injuries, I can use my left thumb a little mainly to hold things as long as I don't use any pressure, the stitches were taken out of my RH wrist last thursday and in 3 weeks the wiring will be removed, my clavicle is giving me the most grief but is starting to mend at least.

All in all things as looking up, just wish I had use off my right hand as it sucks trying to use my 4 fingers on the left hande to do every thing.

    Cheers

Hi there, I also just got back from a trip around Tassie with a few friends. We were between Zeehan and Strahan late on the third day of our trip when my mate and his wife lost it on one of those sweeping bends that tend to tighten up on you. I was behind them by roughly 60 seconds  so entered the bend to see a horrible seen. They were on the opposite side of the road over a small enbankment. The bike a 2011 Road King was a rite off, bits and pieces of it scattered over the paddock. My mate had a few cuts and briuses but his wife ended up with a busted pelvis. Ambo to Stahan and flown out to Launcesten. They say several months to heal, she is still on crutches. They met others in the hospital that had also come off under similar circumstances so be careful of those tight twisties and animals from dusk to dawn  down there.

Apart from the accident we had a great trip, some of the best riding ive done.

I spent a few days in Queenstown and when i first came across the "99 bends"  I took it real steady, after going in and out of Queenstown a few times in both directions I became acustomed to the corners/cornering and was able to race through the twisties and loved it.

I was talking to Al who runs the Harley tours out from Strahan and he has done the 40 minute ride from Strahan to Queenstown in 20 minutes.

Most relaxed ride I had was from Zeehan to Cradle Mountain.

Clem, Sorry to hear about your mates mishap and hope his missus recovers well.

Cactus, I have to agree with you there and I'll certainly go back to Tassie for another holiday if I don't move there instead.

I'll start on posting some of my photo's into the photo section today seeing as i have nothing better to do than sit here and heal.

    Hi All,

Thought I would give an update on how everything is going...

Bike was repaired and dropped off at my place by the dealer about 3 weeks ago, he was waiting on the front guard to come from the states which turned up last Thursday so I trotted off to the dealers and picked up the front guard on Friday. I had a discussion with the assessor prior to approval and dropped a few items off the list so that the bike wouldn't be written off and apart from still being dirty from my holiday the bike is in a better condition than the day I bought it (ex-demo).

My gear that I was wearing at the time was all compensated (even my spare helmet in the wet bag) and I've managed to pick up 2 new helmets, exact models as my damaged ones which were on sale, so an added bonus there.

    So that's the bike...

Me, on the other hand is a different matter.

Right hand is about 90% back to normal but have dificulty clenching my fist and have swelling still going on still,  but I can at least write, drive and other chores  so it's just a matter of time before it heals fully ( I hope).

Collar bone isn't healing though, had last X-ray 3 weeks ago and they said it could take 6 months to heal so they kept me off work for another month, I'm at the point where I want to return to work but no riding the bike till the collar bone heals, I'm due to see the hospital in 2 months time and see hows it healing but in the meantime I'm just taking it easy and not trying to agravate the collarbone too much.

So, that's about it.. All in all QBE were pretty good with the insurance side and I ended up having to cop the neg driving fine after the review but at least my baby is now home

    Cheers

Hey there, Hidiho. I just discovered this thread. I too can relate as I had something similar happen. When I fanally got to hospital I was told off for not calling an ambulance. I was concerened that someone might notify emergency as I knew that cops generally like to issue fines at accidents. How did you go on that score in the end? I had a mate who notified the cops of a deisel spill on a round about after he went down and the cops came out & fined him too.

It sounds like you got some surgery fairly quickly. I had to wait 2 months for my frst op and will have another op in 3 months.

Glad to hear you got your bike fixed, you're recovering and even back on the bike! Good luck with healing in the future- hope you rcover fully.

    Hi All,

A quick update seing as a few have posted replies...

Saw my G.P. on  the 22nd of August and he gave me the green light to go back riding the bike even though my collar bone has only "just" started healing.

So the Sunday morning took the bike for a quick spurt so I could  fill up the tank and discovered a warning light was staying on, once I got home I checked it all out and found a loose plug but had no idea where it went, ended up hooking up my laptop to see what the error code was and turns out the engine temprature sensor was too high, so I looked around the engine and found the engine temp sensor was missing.

I couldn't do much for the rest of the day so I started washing and polishing the bike seeing as it was still carrying all the crud and dirt from my trip, the rear wheel was so filthy that I started polishing it and I discovered that my rear wheel had never been cleaned properly from day one, I thought it was an alloy rear wheel but after spending 2 hours polishing the chrome plating was showing up, I still have to have another go at polishing the rear as some spots are still dirty but I was running out of light at the time.

Monday I rode to work and 5 minutes in the shoulder started acting up, rang the dealer and let him know about the missing sensor and after work rode out there and he replaced the sensor, on the way back the shulder was giving me hell but it is only pain and not limiting the use of the arm/shoulder.

So all last week I rode the bike to work and home and put up with the pain, not quite ready for doing any long trips but at least the Bike is back on the road.

With regards to the neg driving fine, I eventually got a reply back from the RTA  and had to pay the fine, I personally don't believe it was my fault and a few work colleges have suggested suing the council at Murrumbateman but in all honesty I just couldn't be bothered with the whole drama and would rather just get on with riding, will jus have to be extra careful around Murrumbateman where the accident happened.

I still have issues with my hand swelling but I'm putting that down to the collarbone still trying to heal ( last X-ray 3 weeks back showed signs of the ends of the bones starting to heal) and I am slowly regaining strength in my hand. Almost forgot, I was diagnosed with an inflammed bursa the other week and went to the have a cortisone injection and they couldn't fine the inflammed bursa so they said I had a "frozen shoulder" instead and needed extensive therapy, spoke with my GP and decided the best course was to just keep going as I am and using my arm/shoulder as per usual and putting up with the pain to free it up.

So all in all, I'm happy to be back on the bike, my eBay store is back up and running and I'm also back to Airbrushing as well with a few minor drama's because of the swollen hand.

Many thanks to the members who have contributed and offered support within this thread, it's greatly appreciated..

    Cheers
