    Hi R34,

I too was thinking about the Diavel, but fell in love with the Muscle.

I picked up a black 2009 from Kim Britten - Rockingham WA (good guy) with V&H pipes, S/E ignition, it goes like a cut cat!

I have just bought a set of Radiator grill/guards from Gost Rider (internet) and not only will it save my radiator it enhances the look.

Also bought a little Flyscreen for the front and now I reckon it looks better than the Diavel.

I must say ....I cant believe Harley made the V-rod but they desrve full credit as it rocks!

    Hi Watto,

Sorry for the delay. The flyscreen (small windscreen) is made by National Cycle, I got mine off ebay for $174AU delivered. The flyscreen was originally made for the FX-XL models and it looks dodgey on them; however some bright spark (on a US forum) tried it on the Muscle and it looks bloody great. The part number is 2535 (dark tint).  The flyscreen when fitted (20mins) probably just risers anout 1" above the Muscle's speedo; so its more about the look!  When I fitted the flyscreen I was suprised to see that even the chrome brackets replicated the Muscle's headlight brackets. I will post a photo when I get back home.

    Cheers Sid

Was speaking to a bloke I know last night.  He picked up his Diavel on Friday and as of last night, had put 1700 klicks on.  He has had a number of harleys in the past, including a couple of v rods and he reckons this thing leaves the v rods for dead  in comfort, handling and power.  Bloke tends to ride pretty hard and he was getting 6.4/100klms in Sports mode.  Had a sit on it and I gotta say, you are sitting in the bike and everything falls to hand easily.  The shape of the bike when you are looking at it from the back looks just like a big titted woman with a small waist.  Reckon they are sexy as and will be very popular.

Saw one of these today at a rally and it looks not that good. I wasn't to impressed. I thought it was a jappa at first then noticed the ducati emblems... What's worse it doesn't even sound like a duke. Gone is that thump that they have...

Fuck the Ducati, this is the V Rod section. Have a wank over it in the "General Topics" area.

I did. Lets start from the top, shall we. HD Forums Australia - Harley Davidson Bikes - VRSC. I don't see anywhere it saying Ducati. So mate, like it or not, even though you think they are a good bike, discuss it on a Ducati forum.

Ease up tiger, as you so pompously stated "let's start from the top, shall we"..........ok then..... the damn thread topic is in hdforums.com.au/forums/harley davidson bikes/vrsc/ducati diavel......don't try and tell me how to read a damn forum link fer Christ sake......get over it. R34 started a Ducati diavel discussion. He's entitled to discuss whatever he pleases in the forum as long as it doesn't breach forum rules, if it's creating friction under your foreskin, don't read it! Simple.
Using your inane logic, there's also a topic in the vrsc area discussing powder coating and sandblasting.....should that not be in here as well?
    Get over it!

I might clarify my earlier statement about sophistication in relation to the Duck.....

it's got TC and ABS....great....how bout some self cancelling indicators a belt drive and a locking sidestand?

I stand by my statement about the rattly engine....

    Would I buy one?

Maybe in a few years when (after being categorised as the "red headed stepchild" of Ducati's) I can pick one up for about what I would have lost on the HD to trade over.

Granted, ABS is now on everything, it'll be on wheelbarrows at Bunnings soon.    So not a huge step in technology or sophistication levels. Having said that, I don't think it's standard across the HD range, correct me if I'm wrong. But I thought when I test road a vrod recently, the salesman said it was an option on one model and standard on the other? Is that correct? If that's true, it's pretty poor showing on HD's part to not include such a basic safety feature as standard across all model ranges. I first rode a BMW in the late 80's that had abs!
I love the idea of the traction control (DTC), works very well on race bikes and from all reports is a great "assist" on the road. Having said that, there are guys who switch both of those rider aids off as they believe it hinders their "natural riding ability". Up to them, but I especially like the DTC. They must be very good riders, with very high skill levels and should possibly be lining up beside Valentino and the like ( in their minds at least). But the race bikes certainly use traction control so I think it'd be a godsend when you hit loose surfaces, wet roads etc with 160hp on tap. I will certainly keep it activated.
The Diavel does have self canceling indicators, although my current ride doesn't, it's not a biggie for me. They cancel under 80km/h and after 500m.
Yes, I agree, belt drive would be nice, keeps everything clean and quiet, but once again, not a deal breaker for me. I wonder if there's a reason why Ducati don't use them? Possible problems with higher HP etc, I dunno, I'm not an engineer nor am i privy to the engineering that goes on behind the scenes at Ducati, but I can live with a chain. I've only owned two bikes with belt drives, an older softail and my  most recent 08 Fatboy......neither had enough guts to pull the skin off custard, so I figure the belt drive system on those is pretty safe.
I like the programmable options on the Diavel, the ability to set the amount of intrusion of the DTC is great, I like the two instrument panels and the TFT screen.
I can't understand why you think it'll become "the red headed stepson"....is it because it isn't a typical Ducati, as in,  the road version of the racing bike? Like the current 1198's? Is it because it doesn't fit the "cruiser" image? Is it because it's just a very good all round bike? I dunno, but I don't think it'll ever fall into your predicted category. I seem to remember howls of criticism when Ducati introduced the Sports Tourer range......not a real Ducati etc......turned out to be the most popular seller.
Please don't forget, the same "red headed stepson" is currently the feeling about the vrod........many HD owners will never admit that's it a proper HD.....they can't accept the fact that HD had to move on with their model range. Not everyone wanted to buy an old tractor, so they sent the brief to Ferdinand ( because hd were incapable)......design us a strong reliable power plant that'll fit our new platform and the vrod was born. But there are still hd owners who won't look twice at one on the street. The only time they see one is when it blasts past them as they battle to get their fatty or whatever around the bend. They hate them cos they don't sound like a Harley with the potato potato exhaust and cos they are more technically advanced than their old clunker softail or whatever model.......so the vrod is already in your "stepson" category. But I prefer the vrod over the "typical" hd, i nearly bought one, so don't flame me there, I'm merely pointing out the comparison.
Manufacturers have to move with the times and design bikes/cars that suit the market now and for the future. I for one, would love to have a current 1198, but my age simply precludes me from sitting for more than 30 mins in the "super bike" position. The Diavel gives all the performance and technology that is currently offered on the sportbikes, without the compromising riding position. It'll suit a lot of riders.....smart move Ducati. There's a shed load of cashed up baby boomers who are too old for a superbike but want the performance. Ducati have other models that I initially thought were a deviation from the norm as well, but are all good sellers. Not everyone can or wants to ride a "typical" superbike.
Mines on order, I can't wait to get a leg over it.
    Have a good one eh.

    Cheers n beers
