sunshine coast harley: $80ish was talking to them today. although the service is recorded in the HD data base for warranty reference, there is no set dealer price for service. so if your dealer is a over priced dog they will hit you, if they are decent they will give you the first service labour free.
But you can just go to another hd dealer for service yeah?
I might ask my local the base price before I book it in!
if they dont give you a base price for a service they are leaving them self open to charge more.
they know how much it costs for a standard service.
If they are unable to give you a quote and the service is part of keeping a warrenty i would think that they would be breaking some law, anything outside of a standard service will require permission from the owner and a price (quote) given before any work/s is done, if "extra" work is done and you have not been notified then you are not liable to pay any extra amount, so make sure you do get a writen quote, any doubts call an ombudsman or fair trading.
Regards Andrew.
Thats what was thinking Andrew.
Used to work in a panel shop, and can see how far standardised base pricing can be streeeeeeeeetched depending on the sucker... I mean customer.... who is always right of course!?
But only if you ask for it in advance, in writing these days
Working for myself, my finaces fluctuate massively month to month, as Im sure some of you understand. I think its more than fair to ask for the base price for a standard handbook service. I would ditch my local for another that could gimme a price. I need to know how much dough I need to get together on a tight week!
Im not a bargain shopper, but aren't into burning cash or getting reamed either
Ha ha....
Got mine coming up. If they could do mine for that price (Im assuming you bought yours from them?) I would ride up from melbourne, get it serviced in sunny qld and ride back again. It would still be cheaper!
Hmmm
Forgot to mention, I actually got mine for Free. First service free as per the contact that was agreed. Couldnt believe it when i went to go pick up my bike...pulled out the wallet and was ready to pay, The bloke said "the computer is saying this has been paid for" apparently was agreed when i bought the bike. That was news to me...either that...or i was not listening as i was just too excited to get on the bike!! Most probably the latter. aha I guess 'Free' is better than $74 bucks... Still though, feel sorry for those still having to pay $350...labour is definitely the killer!
Last week I was quoted $310 for first service at Harley City. Pick it after a couple of hours $291. No Complaints, other then it was not free!
Im sure that means harley dealerships make their new mechanics go through a short course, maybe its just a run through of procedure in a day - maybe a week (?), and then give them a certificate that qualifies them to service harleys to retain warranty. Im just going over hundreds of posts I have read from various sites and previous harley owners with this PHD thing. I know what you are saying, but harley seems to write their own rules, especially when it comes to warranty and genuine dealer bias (read any recent thread here about buying geniune HD extras from OS online - and think how many fair trade agreements that stretches at very least).
If it exists Im sure its a dealer training thing, not something you can book in a tafe for lol.
Here's some other clowns answer I just found in a 10 second google search (mentions the course you say doesn't exist at a tafe) :

Its called a monopoly
*Followed links to MMI certificate course that said its a 30 week course FYI*
yep. sucks doesnt it. the harley dealer here said that the bikes are set, but service costs labour and parts are open slather. concider your dealers price to be a direct mirror of his level of trustworthyness.
