g'day all, havnt had much of a look around here yet but im sure i will

have a good browse.seems like an awesome forum and pretty big too.

liked the photo on the home page, looks the good ole swan. anyway i havnt

owned a bike yet and am probably making a silly desicion buying a harley as

a first bike but i cant help myself. with not much money to spend im looking at

a sportster.probably from the 70's with the 1000 ironhead motor. i have ridden a few

bikes but dont have a licence. :( can always get one though. the way our dollar is looking

at the moment it seems well worth it to get a used bike from the states. i plan on stripping

the bike and turning into a bobber. should be fun. im looking at older bikes because after 89

they need to go through compliance which ive been told is anywhere from 2G up.

all being well in the coming weeks i will have purchased my machine, i came on this forum for

advice more than anything else, which year is any better than others, any bad years to look out for?

if anyone has any input or advice, please feel free to chime in. much appreciated.

cheers. im off to go have a browse of the forum. :)

thanks guys. my plans are to get a bike, strip to what i need, get some drag bars on it
and convert it to forward controls if it isnt already, may also do a dics brake conversion if it doesnt have them
and spoked rims if it has mags. then, over time buy little bits and pieces for
it as i go. bit of a project really for me and my brother to work on. i have my eye on a 1977
sporty quite cheap, around the $3000 mark, which is about all ive saved so far,ile see what happens there.

initially i wanted a triumph, but there a bit of a collectors item these days.after seeing some of the parts
available for harleys and some of the youtube vids, i couldnt go past one. that "bap bap bap" from the twin
and the awesome stance, have to have one. i just got some tatts done too,so from the look of things
i should fit right in. even though i dont have a bike.lol. :O
looking forward to using the forum, and all being well getting a bike soon.

    thanks for the welcome,ride safe.
