gday all, just wondering if engine oil spilt onto the front rubber mount (when changing filter) is going to damage it?? gave it a quick degreaser spray and hose down soon after but bound to have missed some somewhere.

    any replies appreciated

    cheers

thanks hilly, had a feeling that was the case. aj56 i would put money on the fact that stock engine mounts from the motor co would be sub standard........i shall take more care.

ps -AJ56 your posts arent easy to read due the slight distraction on the left, FUGGN' AWESOME.

The degreaser will do more damage than the oil.

I think I will have to change her out to something more mundane. A lot of people are having the same problem as you, and I don't want to distract people from the advice offered by other members.....

First time I did an oil change I got oil all over the mount, cleaned it all up etc. Couple of months later it broke and I had to buy a new one. That was 6 years ago and haven't replaced another since. I can't say for sure it was the oil that caused it but I make sure I don't get oil on it since.

Oil on th engine mounts is not much of a problem if the oil is cleaned off within an hour or two. If engine oil does cause an engine mount to cause problems then it really means the engine mount was already stuffed and didnt have long to live anyway.

Degreaser should be followed by body wash and then lots of water, then a blast of clean compressed air  - or a ride.

As for the that drip funnel - the price is OK, but the shipping cost is way over inflated. $6 or $7 would be fair, $16 aint. So what they are really saying is that the funnel is worth $32 to them, but they are trying to hide that from you with an artificially low price. Which is a common USA and China tactic, and one  when I see it, means I dont buy from them as it indicates dishonesty.

The Coke bottle idea works for me.
