Gday was just after any info on the 07 sportsters with any major hassles egmotor, fuel injec, gear box. i am in the process of ordering a 2008 883 custom sportster i would think if there was any hassles they would iron them out as the years go on. Any help would be great

    Jim,

I've had mine for about 3 months now (07 883 standard) and I haven't had any hassels. As you probably know the 07 sportster was the first year to come out with fuel injection so I guess there's a bit of a risk with new features on the bike like that but mine's been great. Starts great with the FI no choke to worry about. Harley has been using FI on their other bikes for many years so I'd imagine there's no real risk putting it on the sporty.

883 C will be great as you get forward controls as standard, I had to convert mine from mid controls but the forward controls are great. The bigger tank is good too.

i went n seen the dealer a few months ago they said they hadnt had any worries but i have heard of fuel pumps packing it in off another web site but it will take a while to get bugs out if any.if it has been on the other models for a few years they must be doing something right. i think fuel injec is the way to go not as slugghis when cold,no choke, cleaner engine oil from less wash down clinder walls=longer engine life .im sold

I personally love the FI, my previous bike to the Sporty was a Hyosung GV250 which had a choke and I had to use it evey time on a cold day.  One thing that's very cool with the FI system is that the CO2 sensors in the header pipes adjust your fuel as needed, so when you stop at the lights for example you can hear the motor come down in revs.  Thought it was going to stall the first time I rode it but it's a very cool feature.  Also the FI automatically compensates for the installation of high flow mufflers.

The 883 stock puts out about 45 horsepower at the rear wheel. I found by adding the SE pipes it gave it a bit more go and I've heard that adding an FI manager and high flow air cleaner can take it up to about 55 horses. Personally the 883 is more that enough power for me. Two strokes are pretty quick from what I've heard so you might find that off the line it's about the same as your cr250, torque I believe should be more because of the bigger size motor. I'm by no means an expers best thing to do is take one for a test ride.

    Hey Jim76,

Haven't had any issues with my '07 883C that could be modified or fixed.

    Cheers

Jim, if you are comparing the power difference of the cr to the sportster it's like chalk and cheese. If you think the sportster will be powerfull you will be sadened as i was when i first rode mine. If you have come from a 250 cruser to the 883 you will think it has a lot of power but if you come from a road racer or scrambler it will feel like a dud. I loved everything about my 883c, plenty of torque, good sound, looks good but lacking power so this is why i done the 1200 conversion and now it has power. Not power like a GSXR but like a powerfull harley
    cheers Bretho.

Bretho,  I dissagree.  I came from a big twin sports bike and found the sportster fine.  Sure, I don't break traction changing gears however, I don't want to, its all about feeling good!!! and with that comes a personal opinion.  Each to their own.......Live for Today, tommorow may not happen!!
