I took my S&S air cleaner bell to the metal polishers today to get it rechromed .......it was going to cost  $145.00 .

I'm so out of touch on what things cost  , I was more thinking 60 bucks for something the size of a 2lt icecream container.

Was this about right ...or have I been dooped !

That sounds about right, I had my passenger peg mounts and forward control mounts
chromed as well as the alloy strip on the battery box cover done for $140.

Yes about right .It takes a lot of work to get the part ready for chroming.It has to look like chrome before they chrome it.Bearing in mind they have to strip the old chrome off first.

Exactly why I took up powdercoating when my u-beaut genuine Harley chrome turned to shit.

I had 2 rear struts for my Rocker chromed, $550.00

Thanks for all of that guys ...i'm so out of touch on some prices .....and yes they do spend time in getting the surface predone for the chrome , so thats more hours . Any way ...looking forward to it when it comes back all shiney !!!

As mentioned big costs is surface prep....just like a good paint job. Chroming is a realatively cheap process, the expense these days, aside from prep, is disposal of the chemicals used. Thats its very hard to get the best quality chrome as it has a cadmium base I believe....a super toxic heavy metal
