Any Shovel (74 or 80) can be made to go as fast as your budget can afford. powr diff as KD said is negligible between the two.
If you are looking to buy a "Classic Shovel", you can certainly do enough to it that will make it reliable and still eat stock Evo's
for breakfast, I've been there and done that.

hi , 1982 &1983 were the best shovel's  they have the EVO type narrower  forged  flywheels & conrods as well as the stock piston's were made in germany ,  all shovel's from all years only have 7.5 to comp ratio stock , you can bump them up to 8.5 to 1 C.R. with a  slight cam & have a more modern type  power
