The standard 13" that came on my Iron were notorious for bottoming out, upgraded to the 11" Heavy Duty HD profile shock and haven't had an issue yet.

Hey Kev, spend the money and put them on. I am positive you will be happy with the reults. I also changed the fork springs, fork oil and dropped the front 5mm. It rides and turns into corners so much better. The Ikons also stopped 90% of the wallowing thru corners. HD says they handle ands ride well, not from where I was sitting but it is half way decent now. It used to feel like the back end was going to slip out from under you. You could go for the YSS shocks at $900! They would be better again.

Don't consider quality shocks as an optional extra or a peice of bling, it is an essential. You get A to B faster and safer with quality units. I went from the HD stockers to YSS on my XR1200 significant difference, now just need to work on the front end.

If ya looking to spend a few bucks, have a look into the Touring shocks. They bolt straight up and are supposed to be absolutely brilliant on the Sporties?

fitted 11 inch progressive 440 on the back and Dyna front forks and now we ride a proper bike that doesn't feel the bumps.  .......not bad for a 48
