Does anyone have a GPS on their bike.

Purchased a Garmin Zumo 660 GPS to install on my Fatboy Lo. GPS came with a mounting system which was ugly and very bulky, so I set out to fabricate a new mount.

Had some Aluminium sheet laying around so I made a template then set off to cut, file and shape me a new improved mounting system of my own. The new custom mounting system turned out looking pretty sweet if I may say so, very functional also its not a in your face look when the GPS is mounted on the bracket.

Garmin is now mounted to the screws which hold the clutch bracket to the handlebars, mounting the GPS is easy also it very accessable as its near my left hand if I need to make any changes on the run.

Gamin Zumo 660 has a great screen which can be viewed even in direct sunlight, its waterproof, vibration proof im also able to wear gloves to change things on the GPS with ease. Another great feature is a Fuel Gauge which has been very usefull, used this fuction for the trip to Tasmania. After knowing what the range of my tank is I was able to key in the average distance I would get on the road, then key in when I wanted it to warn me for low fuel level. When the low fuel level activates it shows you a red fuel icon on the screen, you can then click on the fuel icon it will then display where the nearest Petrol station is located.

You then just ride to the garage and fuel up. Reset this again when you fuel up and your ready for the next leg of the journey. Also able to use Bluetooth to connect an iPod, mobile phone and a headset. Tom Tom comes with a headset but the Garmin Zumo 660 does not come with a headset.

Many features on this GPS, its a bit expensive compared to the Tom Tom Rider 2.

With the GPS mounted I can turn the handlebars full lock to the Left plenty of clearance between the GPS and the Tank Console

Not a problem having a glance at the screen, or if you have a bluetooth headset you can hear the voice commands from the GPS, and when its stopped giving you directions it will go back to your music of an ipod or radio.

Also great for when your in different areas as it will prompt you for speed cameras. As I have had a GPS for several years now its great that they have bike gps units now, the Garmin also comes with a mount for the car so it is a dual purpose device

That's a bloody good idea. I've seen the mounts they provide and your right, they are ugly. Might fabricate one for my phone. It has in-built GPS which works 100 times better than my Navman and I use it as my mp3 player.

I have mine mounted with a ram mount, you can hardly notice it when my gps is not mounted (I only use it on long trips when I am going roads I don't know ) I have one on both bikes so I can swap quickly. I have a garmin oregan which does 4wding as well.

You probably have a different Ram mount than the one which is in the kit I received.

No vibrations on the Fatboy Lo, just didn't like the big bulky look of the ram mounts which were supplied with the Garmin I purchased that is why I made my own. Its been on for thousands of K's without any problems :-)

Bought the 660 , find i use it more in the car for work , local i tend to know where i'm going or just don't care , but longer journeys its great , +10 on the  fuel  its helped me find  fuel on a few occasions ,  not to mention  it took me sraight to  a place in Gelong that had the only replacement tyre i could find ,   also great for fidning and booking accomadation  .

It even found me a motorbike shop in a little town  just round the corner from where i broke down , due to the clutch cable snapping  when i was somewhere in Victoria , got the phone number and the guy came round  and got me going , . Other than that i had been told a 4 hour wait for the raa.  and a 150 klm ride back to peter stevens melb , with a 3 day wait to get a cable in .

, this country guy  made  a cable up which got me back to adelaide and lasted for  2-3 weeks  till i got one from the states for half the price

But best of all when i'm on them long roads  just plug the earphones in , and listen to the music i've  plugged into it, via the built in mp3

My 660 stays in my shoulder bag all the time when riding local roads, if I need to use its there to just plug in and away I go if I need to get somewhere I not familiar with. It has some great usefull functions on this device.

I have another GPS which stays in the car, so I have one for both vehicles just in case
