883 to 1200 upgrade questions

Im doing the upgrade to my 883 soon. I know a few people here have done it. Im not sure if I should also change the sproket , gearing etc as Ive heard its quite a bit more of a job, new belt etc. Has anyone here jjust done the upgrade without changing the gearing and if so what results. Im thinking of doing the engine forst then maybe changing the sproket etc later if it really needs it. Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks.

I've done two conversions and never done the sprocket.  I've read about other guys who've swapped out the sprocket and from what I recall, many have said there's no noticeable difference.  The 883 gearing gives you better low end performance.  You don't really have an option with the gearing as you'd have to remove the gearbox which is no small job on a late model sporty.

Did the 883/1200 conversion...you wont believe the differnce it makes. Left the standard 883 28 tooth sprocket on it. It gave sensational early zip, & seeing as I'm rather large, worked well for me, BUT, I was always looking to change it into top gear on nthe open road. Changed to a 29 tooth sprocket & solved the problem, although lost some of the early toe. As I'm now doing more & more long rides, the 29 tooth gear works for me as it drops down the revs in 5th gear. I kept the 883 belt, & the 29 tooth gear fit fine with that belt..plenty of adjustment. Good luck.

narr mate havent dyno'd it as yet but will soonish. i got the 1250 kit, stage 2 heads, 536 cams, being a 06 custom its still carbed so i put the mikuni 42 on her, heavy breathre, hoooker trouble makers without baffles as they just wouldnt stop rattling but will change them soon. the bloody things are always scrapping on corners all the time. and the tc88a tuner and coil with mod map.
she goes real well and im pleased but i always look for the extra gear but im heavy handed.

Mate...was going to go USA for mine, but got one from the Stealer for about $80-90. I thought that was reasonable & had it within 2 days. Geez, buying from the Stealers, I must have had a weak moment. Good luck. By the way, seeing as the Stealers (some) are having a price blitz on parts at the moment, you may do better than that???.

Smoke,I should have put a lil more commentary in. My original plan was to do the SE heads, however after a lil research through the (xlforum.net) website I come to the conclusion that they weren't the best choice. From everything that I have read the gear that NRHS put together seems pretty reliable and there isn't any bad feedback about their kits either.

Which cylinders did you go with, the Iron lined or the full cast set? Does it run hotter than previously or use any additional oil etc?

    Hey Smoke,

Apologies for the ongoing questions, what about fuel consumption, notice any significant issues or dramatic increases in consumption?

Gday, lastoutlaw did you find that changing the ignition module made any big difference. i too have an 06 1200c with 42mm carby and cams but i am still running the std module.

Well gentlemen, just took the plunge and bought the NRHS 1250 kit and Andrews N4 cams, haven't looked @ the heads yet, however will probably end up buying a second hand set through eBay USA and having them send to NRHS to upgrade.

Purchased the kit this morning, will take a few weeks to arrive, let you know how it all goes!!

    Hi Smoke and 883N Convert,
Do you have ny further updates on how you performance mods are going?
Can i ask a silly question, why did you alter the ignition upon the rebuild? What is the ingnition module?
What 2 into 1 sytem did you go with.
    Thanks
    Clem

the reason for ignition module change is because the curves are different from 883 to 1200/1250.
you could just get a 1200 module or get an adjustable one....
the ignition module is a device basically a box telling ya plugs when to spark.
