Guys
New to harleys so apologies if these are common questions.
Taking delivery of a sportster 48 in a few weeks and not much cash left over for mods.
Thinking that exhaust is the obvious one - likely screamin eagle shorty slipons
1. The slipons are at least 100 - 150 cheaper including postage on ebay than the dealer prices. Would a dealer install new pipes that I give them from O.S ? would they care. Am I crazy in getting Harley to install or should I just go to any old mechanic - cheaper ?
2. Do the addition of non standard exhaust void warranties or are the S.E units considered "factory"
3. Has anyone installed the led fuel gauge - would be handy and again much cheaper on ebay
4. The quote I got for whitewall tyres was almost $700, is that actually reasonable.
Because I'm new to the brand I dont want to get ripped by the dealer. I'm still getting used to the idea Ive bought a bike sight unseen and not ridden and paid list price.

Thanks for the answers and advice, I will start ploughing through those posts.
As for waiting a few more weeks to get the 48 ?, well its been ordered since December, soIi guess a few more weeks wont kill me. I visit Harley Heaven in Melbourne that often to look at the floor stock, they might take a restraining order out on me,
Now I just need a metalflake helmet - but will do some searches on previous posts for that, I'm sure custom lids has come up many times.
You should be able to fit the SE slip ons yourself with a handful of tools.
I hadnt worked on a car or bike regularly for probably ten years and it still only took me a half hour.... mostly elbow grease twisting the old ones off, new ones go straight on.
Also before I did this, I spoke to the dealer saying that I wanted to add a few bits to the bike straight away, and was happy to do it myself (especially when you are just talking things like mirror flips/ pipes/ sheilds/ springs seat) as long as it didn't void any warranty. His reply....
"As long as you are lovin the new bike, go for it. If you are unsure about anything or feel you aren't up to it, give us a call and we will help you as best we can".
Get in there and get your hands dirty if you feel you have enough experience. Especially just bolt on parts that cant risk your safety.

Man ive never known any1 to have good luck buying things from overseas , if somethings wrong with it you have to pay to send it back , its not worth it
Walka, don't they say its not what you know its who you know?? haha, they look good very similiar to the HD parts I just bought!! What other parts do you sell?
Thanks mate, will have a look and get back to you
Followed the advice in the posts and got in touch with Luke from Harley Heaven. His prices mostly matched and in some cases beat the O.S ones, including installation and warranty. Very prompt service, I was pretty impresed, wont hesitate to throw my business his way.
Thanks to board members to pointing me in the right direction.
